Foundation News

The children’s have finished their 4 introductory weeks and are now starting their first full time week. They have all transitioned well from kindergarten play based to school learning tasks.

In literacy our word of this week is SUN next week followed by NET. Now that we have completed all sound and mathematics assessment we are able to begin to groups students and have more guided focus group sessions. This will be a new routine where the children will be learning to work independently so that the teachers can give more individualised attention and skills in a small group setting.

Later this week we will also be sending home the most frequently used 100 words, the Magic 100 words. They are organised in coloured levels and have been researched as the most commonly used words for both reading and writing. As described in the notice inside their word book the children are to read them automatically without sounding them out. Encourage them to also look for these words as well as learnt sounds in their take home readers.

Over the next fortnight in maths we will focus on the counting and writing of numbers both forwards and backwards. Often the children can confidently count up however will find it hard to recite a number pattern backwards.

In inquiry we have been having many discussions about the why each student is unique and different and the strengths that having friends with differing qualities and likes can have. We are soon broadening this to families and exploring the various ways that families differ and make up our multicultural community.

The whole school Cross Country will be on Tuesday April 2nd this year. Foundation to Year 2 students will be running in the morning around the oval at the school.
