The Envious Curator

Welcome to the first edition of ‘The Envious Curator’. This column is a space where I will be sharing all the fantastic works, activities and events that our Creative Arts Community is involved in here at the college. You will see artworks that we wish we could have made, exhibitions we wish that we could have attended and hear about our wonderfully different excursions. Most importantly, let’s flip that envy into something positive and get involved! Here you will find all the details that you will need to stop dreaming and play a part in this exciting art community.

Year 9 Visual Arts

Our Year 9 Visual Arts students have been exploring the natural world and how human life impacts upon it. Under the expert guidance of Anna Berger, students have been working on coloured pastel drawings of endangered species. Layer by luxurious layer, students have worked meticulously to capture the texture of each animal’s unique coat and markings to pay homage to their beauty. An impressive first project for their elective, the Year 9 works are currently on exhibition in S118. Students and staff are invited to view their majesty in person.

Year 7 Retreat, Women of Welcome

Year 7 went on Retreat to Wellspring Anglican Church in Sandy Bay on Thursday 12 March and focused on the theme, Women of Welcome.

Thank you to Sophia Raudino and Grace Marshall (Year 7) who reported on the day:

Last week Year 7 welcomed waves during their Retreat day. The day focused on the importance of welcoming one another and being the best version of ourselves. Activities included taking off our 'mask' to others, introducing ourselves to everyone individually and finding calmness with a form of meditation and prayer called Examen. We learned how to welcome everyone no matter where they are from or what they look like. The day was a wonderful reminder of how special we all are.

Year 8 Retreat, Women of Creation

The Year 8 Retreat took place last Friday 13 March at the Lindisfarne Rowing Club, with the day centred on the theme of Women of Creation.

Students explored spirituality with the connection to the environment, self and others. Together they created yarn dolls with colours that represent their character virtues. The yarn dolls brought together a colourful display of characters.

Painting the town teal

It was wonderful for Senior students to attend The Hon. Elise Archer MP’s Ovarian Cancer Awareness Afternoon Tea and support the paint the town teal movement.
