Assessment/Reporting Process

At Mount View we promote the use of a range of assessment and feedback strategies that are designed to give a clear picture of a student’s progress both orally, digitally or in writing. Student progress is continuous and as such is continually assessed and reported on throughout the year. This practice provides regular feedback to students, parents and teachers so that all concerned have the opportunity to be active and informed participants in the learning process.

Our Mount View assessment/reporting process for 2019 is as follows:

Assessment/Reporting

Parent Teacher Interviews

Reports explain to parents student learning against the Victorian Curriculum.

∙ Schools must report student achievement twice a year to parents.

∙ Each report must include information about each of the learning domains.

∙ Each report must show actual individual student achievement and that achievement in relation to the standard of achievement expected of that student’s year level cohort. This is done through a graphic representation of student achievement in relation to an age expected level of achievement.

∙ It is expected that the report will include individual comments in relation to students’ learning progress.

∙ It also includes information about student behaviour and effort in class.

(VCAA)

Parents are able to meet and discuss their child’s progress and achievements for Semester 1.

This is a meeting with your child's teachers. The meeting is to:

build a positive relationship

share information about your child's interests and learning

talk more in-depth about your child's student report.

Parent-teacher interviews are valuable, to know the achievements of your child. You can also learn where you can help your child in their learning.

Term 3

Student Led Conferences

A student-led conference is a conference with parents led by the student. The role of the classroom teacher is to facilitate in the conference process. Students lead parents through a discussion of their work and established academic and social goals. Students will share their portfolios, both digital and hard copy with their parents during this conference.

Benefits of student-led conferences:

Students assume greater control of their academic progress.

Students accept personal responsibility for their academic performance.

Term 4

Written Report

Portfolios

Schools must report student achievement twice a year to parents.

The portfolio is a profile of student achievement and accomplishments. It is an important mechanism for documenting a student’s educational progress through the curriculum. The student and teachers collaborate on selections for the portfolio, which may contain:

assessments by the teacher

examples of the student's work

information about any extracurricular achievements or other activities undertaken by the student

self-assessment by the student

Portfolios will be sent home at the end of term 4 with and to compliment the school report.
