Year 7

Anthony Brewergray

Hello families of Year 7 students.

It was very pleasing to see our Year 7 group arrive back at school with enthusiasm and excitement. If there were any worries or groans from missing the freedom of school holidays, they were certainly gone by recess time!

We also welcome back Teagan and Ava from their time studying with Falls Creek Academy in Term 3, and Boaz returning to school with us again. Your peers and teachers have been very pleased to have you return.

As a reminder, with our college being a Sun Smart School, if your child can make sure they have a bucket hat handy in their locker or school bag for recess and lunchtimes, that would be much appreciated. This can be a school uniform bucket hat (on sale at Mt Beauty Hardware and Drapery) or another bucket hat in a style appropriate for school - I've seen a very classy Collingwood FC version walking around the yard this week.

Year 8

Dan Carroll

The Year 8 cohort has returned for the final term of the year, and most students have made a great start to Term 4.

At this time of the year, students need to maintain their consistent effort in all classes and subjects, and try to role-model good behaviours for other students to observe and follow.

On a more practical note, subject selections are happening very soon, and students should be conscious of this process, as it will allow them to choose their pathway forward over the coming years.

Year 9

Brad Redmond

Term 3 seems like it was last year, however, like clockwork, Future Makers has galvanised this group and they will hold this experience going forward into their Senior school Studies. Term 4 is fast paced with everyone (teacher included) having 1 eye on the finish line in around 6 short weeks. However, there is SO much that needs to be done before we can bid year 9 good bye. Firstly, Subject selections for 2023. As year 10's, they have the opportunity to accelerate into a VCE subjects, as well as the usual multitude of middle school offerings.

With the Information night on Wednesday the 26th Oct, the forms will be due back in on Monday 31st October. From there, Students will have a "one on one" interview with their 2023 Year level coordinator to discuss their selections. Students will then find out what classes they will be going into early December.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via email or by phoning the school.

Year 10

Jenny Farrington

The start to Term 4 has been a busy one for the Year 10’s, with the Middle School Camp to Sydney, Year 11 subject selections being confirmed last week, staff getting students ready for a successful start to their VCE and trying to finish up assessments before the Advantage Program starts.

This is an important term for Year 10’s as it is the time to start thinking about what they are planning to do throughout their VCE.

Year 10 students will complete their English and Maths exam between Wednesday 16th and Friday 18th of November, along with exams for those that are currently accelerating into a Unit 2 Exam. The Advantage Program will begin the following Monday, 21st November, where students will experience all of their chosen VCE subjects. This is an important time, as it allows students to get a real understanding and taste of what VCE will look and feel like.

Year 11

Ann Bellingham

Here we are in term four, where life seems to get even more hectic and time just flies!

Blocking of subjects based on student choices has been complete and students received their subject selections for 2023 this week. The majority of students received their first choices.

Last week saw year 12 students celebrate their last days at school and they are now on swat vac. Units 3-4 exams will take place in the Hoppet Auditorium and associated meeting rooms, beginning this Wednesday. I wish all the accelerating year 11 students well in their exams over the next three weeks.

Internal Unit 2 Exams will take place in week 7 of term 4 in the final 3 days of current classes for Year 11 students. That is 16th – 18th November. A timetable for these exams will be available soon.

The year 11’s have been working on their year 12 jumpers for some time now and it is reaching the point where orders are ready to be placed. These jumpers need to be paid for by tomorrow before the order can go in. The jumpers look great and I’m sure they will be a warm and comfortable, smartly dressed cohort next year.

The Advantage Program will run in weeks 8 and 9 of term 4. On the first day of the program, Monday 21st Nov, a study skills session will be run by an external provider for all incoming VCE and VCE VM students. Thanks to Jo Macklan for organising this.  Incoming Year 12 students will then have a 5-day Advantage Program following the study skills day, a wellbeing day on 29th Nov, followed by the Year 11 camp 30th Nov – 2nd Dec. You will find the information for this camp on Compass. The camp is a great way to celebrate the end of the year and a good time for forging greater ties leading into year 12. It is a time that students begin to focus on what life after school might hold as they contemplate further studies or training, work and independence.

Year 12

Le-Anne McCraw

Year 12 students celebrated their last day of official classes at Mt Beauty Secondary College with an assembly. Students conducted a survey where students from 7 to 11 were able to choose their ‘favourite’ year 12 in a number of different categories. Students were presented with certificates reminiscent of ones from earlier in their schooling. They then engaged the audience with unusual things the year 12 group have done during the last twelve months and then had staff guess each of the year 12’s from their cute baby photos.

Students completing VCAL or those who have chosen to go unscored are now finished year 12. Congratulations.

Students completing exams are now on swot vac. Students are able to attend classes and seek assistance from their teachers right up until their exams. All exams will take place in the Hoppet Auditorium and associated meeting rooms, beginning with English on Wednesday 26th October.

Year 12 students still have a number of school-based activities to participate in. Their formal graduation is on Monday 21st November.

Presentation Evening takes place on Wednesday 14th December. The school captains will make their final speech and introduce the school captains for 2023. A number of prestigious awards are presented to year 12 students including Dux of the year, Jessie Hollonds scholarships, the Ampol Allrounder award, the Long Tan Leadership award and subject awards just to name a few. I look forward to seeing all Yr 12 students at this event.

Study Score and ATAR results will be released on Monday 12th December. Jo Macklan will be available from 7am for consultations by phone with students, and then during the remainder of the week for change of preference support.  An informal morning tea gathering will also be held on Monday 12th December from 10am at the Auditorium for all year 12 students.  Ms Macklan and myself will be in attendance until 12noon.

Additional availability will also take place on university offer release dates and details will be provided to students in coming weeks.

Please mark these dates on your calendar.

Congratulations to all year 12 students and I wish you all the best with whatever you chose to do in the future.
