Falling deep, 2022 by Sydney Wilson
Acrylic paint, impasto and vanish.
I focused my work during Units 3 and 4 on beauty and how everyone is beautiful regardless of whether they fit societal standards. As I developed my ideas in Unit 4, I focused specifically on inner beauty and the pressure to look a certain way. In my folio, I explore the complexities of societal pressures as part of daily contemporary life. My art portrays the pressures young women, especially young girls, face today regarding how they should look.
For my first piece “Falling Deep” it shows a figure falling into a vast, deep, dark ocean. I painted it in the way that the figure is small but there is a faint lager figure deeper showing the shadow and how large someone can feel, literally and figuratively.

‘Vulnerable’ 2022
Mix Media Collage on Canvas
My first final piece is a mix media collage including newspaper, watercolour/watercolour paper, acrylic paint, fine liner and paint markers. Some of the pieces that have been stuck down with matte mod podge have personal connection drawing back to myself which relate to my subject matter of emotions, mental health and relationships.
‘Communication’ 2022
Mix Media Collage on Canvas board
My second final piece fades away more from the newspaper collaging and more into text and was done with watercolour and paint markers. It really focuses more on the communication between two “people” which were done with watercolour-on-watercolour paper and stuck down with matte mod podge. I wrote the words all close together to mimic a racing mind, where the two people seem to be thinking and not saying, causing a confusion of communication hence questions.

Students decorated rockets and tried to fly them the furthest distance on Tuesday this week in their unit on space.
Belly Dancing with Ms McCraw
This week in dance class we have been learning how to belly dance. We were shown how to complete a number of belly dancing moves by the teacher. In small groups, we incorporated our own transition to the set moves given. While we performed the dance, we got to wear belly dancing skirts and tops. The outfits had lots of sequins, either in gold or silver. Our favourite part of belly dancing was learning how to isolate our bodies and only move certain parts.

Unit 2 Maths Methods with Ms Brennan
In small groups, students had to make, and present, a 3D model out of art and craft supplies that represented a key idea of Rates of Change and/or Differentiation from First Principles.
With a 30 minute time limit, all groups created unique models that accurately demonstrated their selected key concepts, ranging from average Rate of Change to how to evaluate limits. Well done!
Forensics & Psychology with Mr Davies
Last Friday Year 9/10 students looked at the structure of the eye and how our eyes can create an image of the world.
