SPX ISA Trial v Shore – Wed 5 October 2022

An SPX ISA team played Shore 2nd XI at Northbridge. SPX Captain Joel Austin won the toss and decided to bat. After the loss of two early wickets, Manas Bansal (55 retired) and Will Pavely (77 retired) combined in an excellent partnership. Useful contributions from Victor Mosmann and Jesse Mansbridge supported Flynn Pavely (33 not out) ensured a competitive total of 6/232 from 35 overs. Intermittent rain limited Shore’s innings to only 17 overs prior to abandonment of the match. SPX bowlers worked hard to restrict Shore to 1/38. The wicket, an edge off Tom Carroll to wicket keeper Oli Freeman. All bowlers had some useful time at the bowling crease. Unfortunately, wet weather prevented any play in the match against Riverview scheduled for the following day.

Strength and Conditioning

Pre-season Strength and Conditioning commences this week. We are trialling a new program with Rugby as of Week 1. As per our meeting last term, we expect our student athletes to participate in the pre-season program twice a week at the Sarto Gym (preferably with their respective age group). Please ensure you collect your Pre-Season Program during Week 1 and 2. All students are reminded to use the Mind Body App when booking their training session.

A reminder that Rugby students will be required to also log their attendance on arrival on the google sheet document which will be made available by the S & C coach during each training session.

Ms Laura Coombe - Strength and Conditioning Convenor

Athletics

After a hugely successful winning ISA campaign, a large group of St Pius X athletes took on the best Independent students at the CIS Championships.

CIS Carnival

There were some superb results but special mention must go to our Yr 10 team. Matthew Hunt completed the 400m flat and 110m Hurdles double, the latter in a new CIS record! Andrew May threw a massive 6m PB to claim 1st in the Javelin. Matteo ran a rapid 11.42, missing 2nd in the 100m by 1 hundredth of a second. Zach Flynn (Yr 11) reclaimed some form to grab a podium spot in the 100m.

Congratulations to all athletes for representing The College with distinction.
