Year 9 and 10

A peek into year 9 and 10 activities

Year 10 Outdoor Education

Week 3 saw Mr Lane’s Outdoor Ed class venture to The Otways for a 3-day bushwalk culminating in a surfing session at Lorne. Students handed in their phones at departure, a little bit nervous as to how they would cope with TikTok and Instagram. Upon arrival at Apollo Bay, where our walk commenced, the group were greeted with perfect conditions and were pumped and ready to go. 🏃🏻‍♂️

Day 1 saw the group navigate the first stretch of the great ocean walk (10 km), contending with rocks at low tide, beach walking and some inland hilly sections. Students navigated what would be the first of some deep mud, dodged the odd snake (we had gators on) and of the hillier sections of the walk. After setting a fast pace the group arrived at the first campground for some much-earned rest.

Day 2 (12 km) saw the group hit the mud! Students were stoic and persevered in some average track conditions making our destination, Blanket Bay, by early afternoon. During day two, students undertook a ‘Solo Walk’, where they walked individually along a section of track, providing students with the opportunity to have some quiet time in one of Victoria’s best National Parks. Arriving at Blanket Bay brought great relief with students trekking 22 km with a full pack! Students hung out in the rock pools, played some beach cricket and we were lucky enough to spot some passing whales! 🐋

On day 3, the group packed up camp, loaded up the bus and made the journey to Lorne for a surf followed by fish n chips! Some students were quite surprised by Mr Lane’s ability to stand up on a board. 🏄🏻‍♂️

All students who attended the camp were exceptional in their perseverance and mindset. Students were sore, and there were blisters and a few stacks into the mud and beach rocks, but everyone got a lot of the experience, mainly due to an optimistic and positive mindset. 👏🏼

Week 4 will see both Outdoor Ed classes head to Queenscliff for a snorkelling trip in the southern part of the bay. Students will hope to swim with seals and dolphins!

Year 10 Geography Excursion to Docklands

Year 10 Geography Students ventured to the Docklands for fieldwork. Students were asked to make sketches, carry out a traffic count and observe the characteristics of the area. All of this was done to a high standard. Students will use this information to write a Fieldwork Report. 📝
