Year 12 News

Swimming Carnival

On Friday the 15th of January the Year 12 cohort were involved in the school swimming sports. The enthusiasm, passion and the huge year 12 student representation was amazing to see.  These students were willing to get involved and have fun. Students who didn’t participate in the pool were still involved by cheering their peers on from the side line.  All the students worked together to gain points for their house.  Well done to the class of 2019 for getting involved, we can’t wait to see you participating in  the upcoming Athletics day.

Mount Bogong

Will Hipkin

In the early parts of January 2019, Luca Zonneveldt and I set to climb one of the tallest mountains in Australia, Mount Bogong. We both were very nervous leading up to the climb, training for months prior, to prepare ourselves for an already tough challenge but for me also not being able to see the terrain or the obstacles in front of  me. Mount Bogong was tough the whole journey, the steep staircase start, turning into rocky terrain as we got higher up the mountain. Luca and I had 2 local guides who were making sure the only way was up attempting to climb Mount Bogong. We both learnt a lot from the 2 guides as they had plenty of mountaineering experience. Rising higher in altitude trees started disappearing and only rock started to appear, this meant we were getting closer to the top. For me being visually impaired I am in touch with my senses a lot more than your average person, the sounds from the birds, the smells of all types of plants, and anything I could take in to account climbing I cherished. Reaching the top of Mount Bogong was a feeling of satisfaction, that I really can do anything I put my mind too. I apply that mindset to everything and hope to always achieve higher.
