Assistant Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 4

We hope that parents and students enjoyed a safe and enjoyable break from school and shared some quality family time together.  October is a busy month in the school year - full of promise in terms of planning and preparation for 2020 and yet so much to be achieved before year’s end.

Greensborough College Art Show

The annual Greensborough College Art Show was conducted during Week 2 of this term – October 14-18 inclusive.  It was launched by a Grand Opening Night on Monday, 14 October at 6-8 pm in APAC 1 with an accompanying ensemble to celebrate the occasion.  An extensive range of parents, siblings and family supporters gathered with our art contributors and their peers to nibble at delicious hot and cold food, marvel at the quality of the exhibits and to proudly acknowledge the developing skills of our students.  The exhibition showcased and celebrated a broad array of works – ceramics, paintings and drawings, as well as photographic, visual communication and media representations. Congratulations go to the worthy presenters whose work achieved Principal Class, Year Level and Subject Awards.  Thank you to our Visual Arts Domain Team – Meegan Triance, Andrew Ericksen and Glenn Jenner – who oversaw the construction and presentation of the exhibition.

End of Formal Schooling for Year 12

On Monday this week the Year 12 cohort celebrated this last formal day of secondary schooling.  Activities on the day included a lunch with parents and a whole school assembly to commemorate their time at Greensborough College.  At the latter Samantha Beasley – a Year 12 student – led to the school in a stirring rendition of the National Anthem.  With an audience consisting of appreciative parents and a well-behaved student body this positive event reaffirmed the importance of whole school assemblies to share significant school experiences and to build school culture.

We wish our Year 12 students well in their exams and in their further efforts to secure tertiary positions, further training, apprenticeships and/or employment.  The Year 12 Exams commence on October 30.  Parents and students should note that that, in the Curriculum News section of this newsletter, Mr Jenner has outlined and explained the VCE Exam Protocols.

Year 7 and Year 10 Immunisations

On Wednesday, October 22 students in Year 7 and in Year 10 were respectively given their HPV and booster vaccinations.  Our students were well-behaved and followed instructions, thereby ensuring a fuss-free and effective process.  We acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of our local council, as well as the nurses and accompanying staff, who provide this valuable health service and thereby ensure that our students and our local community are protected from communicable diseases.

Given that this is the third week of Term 4, we hope and expect that students are fully invested in their studies.  With a positive and consistent working ethic, a mindset that transforms challenges into opportunities for growth, a study routine that determines and fulfils priorities, students can achieve great outcomes.  Be positive, be curious and strive.
