PDHPE/Sport News

Term 2

Term 2 has been an extremely busy term for the PDHPE faculty. Students have been exposed to a wide range of opportunities through athletics, cross country, knockout team sport events and even a visit from an Olympian as part of the Olympics Unleashed Program. They have also learnt about a wide range of current health issues that are affecting adolescents today.

Stage 4 and 5 PDHPE

Our Year 8 students have been working through the unit Adolescence a Time of Change. Students have been learning about and sharing their experiences about the physical, social and emotional changes throughout this stage in their life.

The Year 9 cohort have been working through the implementation of the new PDHPE syllabus with the unit Eating, Moving and Feeling Good. This unit of work explores the importance of the relationship between diet and exercise and how it can affect an individual’s body image.

Year 10 have exploring the various types of risks associated with alcohol, drug use, sleep deprivation and risk taking behaviours

In our practical PDHPE program, our students have been exposed to a range of sports including, athletics, cross country running, various net and court games and invasion games which have all aimed to improve their movement skills and to keep our students physically active.

Stage 6 PDHPE - HSC Study Day

Our Stage 6 PDHPE students attended the ACHPER HSC Study day on Wednesday 25 June in Sydney. It was a fantastic day in which students learnt about various exam techniques as they move towards their trial HSC. Students were also provided with extra revision material in relation to Sports Medicine, Core 1 and Core 2. We hope that this experience will assist them throughout their upcoming assessment period and they were able to take some revision strategies away with them.

School, Zone and Regional Cross Country

Readers of the Henry Kendall Highlights would have seen our results for the school and Zone Cross Country in earlier issues this term. The Sydney North Cross Country Carnival was held at Gosford Racecourse on Friday 21 June. We are still waiting for final results from Sydney North, however once these result have been finalised our students will recognised at the next celebration assembly

Under 19’s Northern NSW Futsal Championships

Congratulations to the Under 19’s Girls Futsal Team who reached the Northern NSW Championships last week at Maitland. The team faced some top opposition including Kurri Kurri and Kotara. Unfortunately the girls lost all of their games but they were all extremely close and our students played with tremendous spirit and commitment.

Mason Colwell

Congratulations to Mason Colwell who has received his Blue Jacket from the NSW Touch Football Association. Mason is now qualified level 4 referee for NSW Touch Football. This is an incredible achievement for a student his age. We look forward to seeing Mason progress through the ranks at national and international level in the future.

The faculty would like to congratulate all of the students who represented the school throughout Term 2 - you have done your school proud!!
