ST JAMES REMOTE LEARNING LEGENDS
At St James, we are exceptionally proud of the hard work and dedication the children are showing during remote learning. The children are constantly exhibiting perseverance, dedication and resilience. As teachers, we understand that at times enthusiasm and engagement can waiver however throughout remote learning 2.0. Teachers have seen students overcome isolation and restrictions to stay engaged and motivated.
As we approach the end of term 3 we want to acknowledge the hard work and learning journey of our fantastic students within our St James community.
We have initiated an award titled Remote Learning Legends for students in our classes who meet the following Success Criteria:
1. Attend Google Meets on time for the week
2. Complete learning tasks set in your Google Slides / classroom
3. Be an active participant in your class Google Meets, demonstrating expected behaviours Students will only be able to receive this award, meeting the second criteria for Specialist Classes, "Complete learning tasks set in your Google Slides".
The nominated students will be mentioned at Assembly, their name listed in the Newsletter and will also receive a Merit Certificate.

NATIONAL eSMART WEEK
This year our school has registered to take part in National eSmart Week.
eSmart is an initiative of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation and is all about building supportive and connected social environments both on and offline.
This year’s National eSmart Week theme is Connecting Safely.
The week from 6-12 September celebrates the work schools have done to connect safely. Please keep an eye out over the coming week for more details about events and activities the students' families can get involved in.
This information will be shared through social media, Parent Portal and weekly level letters.

A poem written by Lorenzo I
His way of saying thank you to all the teachers.
Respect for the teachers in remote learning
I am not sure many realise
Remote learning in the teachers eyes,
They work long nights correcting our grammar
So that we make sure not to stammer,
When we are talking or saying a speech
Even if we are out of reach,
Yet we can still connect through a screen
Even if the class are all teens,
If you think about it this way you feel so much pride
For the teachers on this remote learning ride.

YEAR 2
Throughout this year the Year 2 students have enjoyed many forms of poetry. We have been steadily adding a variety of poems to our 2020 Poetry Anthology. During the past few weeks we have explored the use of repetitive language and alliteration in poetry and here are Year 2WO attempts at writing ‘Colour Me’ poems. Year 2C poems are coming next week.
Colour Me Poems
If I was blue, I’d be as peaceful as the sea
And I’d swim with the whirling whales.
If I was brown, I’d be as beautiful as bark
And I’d snore with bouncing bears.
If I was grey, I’d be as big as rocks
And I’d run with enormous elephants.
By Ethan C
If I was white, I’d be as bright as the moonlight
And I’d shoot through the sky like a falling star.
If I was yellow, I’d be as joyful as a happy child
And I’d play in the mud with daring dingo pups.
If I was red, I’d be as hot as the flickering fire
And I’d be as playful as fearless foxes.
By Saskia S
If I was blue, I’d be as dreamy as the moving sky
And I’d lay beneath the trees with cuddly clouds.
If I was green, I’d be as calm as the swaying grass
And I’d flicker through the air with beautiful butterflies.
If I was indigo, I’d be as sweet as the scent of lavender
And I’d rise from the garden with blooming blossoms.
As stunning as a rainbow
The colours create our world.
By Delilah C
If I was yellow, I’d be as bright as the sizzling hot sun.
If I was blue, I’d be as calm as the bright blue sky.
If I was green, I’d be as light as the green meadows.
By Hugh H
If I was red, I’d be as delicious as an apple
And I’d fill your hearts with goodness.
If I was orange, I’d be a tasty juicy fruit
And I’d eat with fabulous friends.
If I was yellow, I’d be as bright as the burning midday sun
And I’d burn like dragon fires.
If I was green, I’d be free, rolling in the grassy hills
And I’d dance with fearless friends.
If I was blue, I’d be as bright and deep as the ocean
And I’d bounce and bellow like a big whale.
If I was indigo, I’d be the atmosphere just before space
And I’d be gliding like God
If I was violet, I’d be in a green shady bed
And I'd brighten the day with blooming beautiful flowers.
By Audrey H
If I was red, I’d be as shiny as an apple on a tree.
If I was orange, I’d be as gloomy as a tangelo.
If I was green, I’d be as soft as a leaf.
If I was blue, I’d be as dashing as a waterfall.
If I was violet, I’d be as sleepy as a rabbit, like my sister.
If I was indigo, I’d be as pretty as the night sky.
If I was the rainbow, I’d be as pretty as the sunlight.
By Camille B
If I was green, I’d be as fresh as a young leaf
And I’d float in the breeze with elegant eagles.
If I was purple, I’d be as proud as an early sunrise
And I’d skim the skies with daring dragons.

And I’d prowl from my cave with a bold brave bear.

Winter
Wind, wild world.
Wet whirly white snow falling in winter time.
When it’s winter you’ll know ‘cos it’s as cold as cold can be.
Winter, wet and cold.
Winter, winter it comes once in awhile
Winter, winter

Ethan H - Year 1S
Bat flies free
Poss in the tree
Poss is clever
Will Bat be bad forever?
Enzo R - Year 1S
Poss was little and shy.
When she saw Bat she wanted to cry.
Bat was big and brown.
He made Poss frown.
Audrey C - Year 2C
Bat had a hat and that was that.
He had quite a big one, like a bat that was fat.
It took me back, and that’s a fact.

Possum is kind, and has a clever mind

PARTY INVITATIONS
We marked the celebration of Fathers' Day by reading the book 'THE DAY I SWAPPED MY DAD FOR TWO GOLDFISH' by Neil Gaiman.
The Juniors created colourful fishy cards giving their Dads and special persons fun messages to make them smile.
You are totally fin- tastic
Hooked on you!
We considered swapping some of our family members for two goldfish.
Here are some of our reasons as to why we thought it would/would not be a good idea.
