OSHClub

What we’ve been up to at OSHC!

Over the past week we have been continuing to explore our term goal, to learn more about Australian flora and fauna as well as how to look after the environments in which they exist! Last newsletter we updated you on the creation of our Reconciliation Garden at the school. Building on our sustainable practices, we have planted some seeds for the garden and can’t wait to watch them grow! Siena in Grade 4 has taken on a leadership role with this initiative and is our green leader! We have planted some spring vegetables, carrot and spinach!

This aligns with the Aboriginal message:

“We invite you to take a leaf from the branches of the river white gum. If you accept a leaf and we hope you do, it means you are welcome to everything, from the tops of the trees to the roots of the earth. But you must only take from this land what you can give back

From ‘Welcome to Country’ by Aunty Joy Murphy and Lisa Kennedy

Welcoming in the Spring weather, the children have loved the opportunity to be outside and enjoy the lovely Melbourne sunshine. We have all enjoyed playing board games and enjoying our afternoon tea in the glorious weather!

Recently, we have introduced Active Tuesdays! In response the needs and interests of the children, we have incorporated a fun, engaging and physical program that provides children with the opportunity to express their need to be active. The children have responded really well to this new initiative and have enjoyed playing four corners, jump in jump out, octopus as well as running races.

In the kitchen, Charlie has expressed an interest in Italian cuisine! Over the past fortnight we have cooked some yummy pizzas for afternoon snack. Afterwards, Charlie wanted to show off all he has learnt about procedural texts as he wrote out the steps of the recipe. Amazing work Charlie! Over the next fortnight we can’t wait to cook some Gnocchi with the children. Yummy!

The children are continuing to love our shared afternoon tea with the staff at St James. In these tough times, we think it is important that the children are engaged and contribute to a community of compassion and kindness.

Charlie and Bobby in Foundation loved helping to bake scones for afternoon tea, but they especially loved surprising the school staff with these yummy treats!

School Holidays

Lachie and Laura will be working throughout the holidays at St Joseph's Primary School OSHClub alongside Siobhan and Bec, who are existing staff at St Joseph's.

We have a range of fun and engaging activities planned for your children including a fancy dress day (featuring Lachie as a surprise fairy again!), Lego and writing competitions as well as a pyjama party and so much more!

Please note that the Permitted Worker Scheme remains in place during these school holidays, so please ensure that you have obtained your Childcare Permit before booking into the program. Please also make sure you carry this permit with you when travelling to and from the service.

We hope to see as many of the beautiful St James families as we can at St Joseph's these holidays! If you have any queries with bookings or enrolments for St Joseph's, please do not hesitate to contact St James on 0412 570 934 or Siobhan at St Joseph's on 0437 730 158.

Do you have any recycled materials we could use at OSHClub?

As part of our initiative to embed more sustainable practices within our program, we would love it if you could bring any recyclable materials that the children could repurpose into some awesome craft inventions! Things like toilet rolls, jars, boxes or even newspaper would be fantastic!

OSHClub Class Dojo

If you have a child who attends OSHClub, please take a moment to sign up to our Class Dojo. Through the application parents can view how their child is behaving and also peep a view at the fun things we get up to!

Enrolments
