Remote Learning Level 5

Last week the Year Five students had a taste of fractional thinking.

Our math's session was turned into a hands-on learning experience by using food to represent fractions. The students created regular fractions, irregular fractions, mixed fractions and equivalent fractions.

Teaching fractions with food is a natural way to begin any fraction unit.

There are many foods that are already divided into equal parts, and using these foods to

introduce fractions allows students to begin making connections using their background knowledge.

A big thank you to Ms Barca, Mrs Pontin-Raj, Ms Spriggs and Ms Barbanti for deepening their students understanding of fractions and making links with Mathematics in the real life.
