National Health and Physical Education Day

Australian school children rank among the worst in the world when it comes to their physical activity levels. To tackle this problem, they need to be taught skills and have better knowledge and understanding of how to lead active and healthy lifestyles.

That’s why National Health and Physical Education (HPE) Day has been designed to raise awareness of, and advocate for, a greater focus of HPE in our schools.

The theme of HPE day is Good for Children, Good for Schools and Good for Communities and in 2020 HPE day is on Wednesday 2nd September 2020!

This week HPE task is a series of lessons designed from Tennis Victoria. For those people who want to get involved in the virtual tennis competition, read the information below.

From Tennis Victoria: At Tennis Victoria we want to help get your students involved in NHPE day on the 2nd September and give them a great opportunity to be active and showcase what they can do!

We have put together a video which you can share with your students of fun activities that they can do at home.

The video can be found at https://youtu.be/u7GhHqYUaLM

Tennis Victoria are partnering with School Sport Victoria to deliver Virtual Tennis.

Virtual Tennis will run from the 31st August for 3 weeks. SSV will have a selection of HomeCourtTennis videos for students to watch and replicate. We will have a number of 2020 Australian Open player towels as prizes for students who get involved from both a participation and performance perspective.

No tennis equipment – No worries. HomeCourtTennis is about using what you have at home to play tennis. Think about fry pans for racquets and socks for balls! Some of the activities you will see on our NHPE day video will also feature in virtual tennis, so with parent permission you can film themselves, upload their videos and have the opportunity to win a great prize! This is not compulsory it is only if you want to sign up for Virtual Tennis.

Just Brass 2020

Just Brass offers children a chance to learn a musical instrument and develop their potential as a leader in their peer group and local community.

As part of the program every student receives an instrument, music and weekly music lessons and the opportunity to play in a band.  Students are transported from partnering school to Salvation Army Centres for weekly band rehearsals.  bands cater for all levels of skill: beginners for those just starting out, junior for those a little down the track and intermediate or youth.

All activities are no, or low cost to ensure there are no barriers.
