Dear Members of the Academy Community,

The season of winter is upon us.  As I write this newsletter and glance out of the window, I see leaden skies and rain pouring down.

People often look at me quite strangely when I say that winter is my favourite season – it is a season of coats and boots and scarves and gloves, but also a season of quiet contemplation.  It is a time to pause and reflect and, in some ways, find our inner selves.  I wish you happy reflection time in the months ahead!

I am sure those who dislike Winter and feel a little dispirited this time of year will have had their spirits restored after attending our 2022 Musical – Fame Jr.  Such a joyous musical and one which encourages our students to showcase their singing, acting and dancing skills.  Congratulations to the very talented cast of the musical – an outstanding effort by all.

I extend my thanks to Ms Olivia Hamilton, Director and Choreographer and Ms Mirelle Morris, Musical Director, for all their efforts producing this year’s Musical. Thank you also to the many staff who assisted behind the scenes, ensuring each performance ran smoothly.  A special mention, too, to the many parents who supported the Musical in so many ways, particularly through volunteering their services, serving hot dogs, donuts, popcorn and ice creams at each of the performances.  We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated body of parents who are always willing to support the College in whatever way they can.

We now come to the all important examination period with Year 11 examinations commencing this week (and Year 10 students commencing the following week). Sustained study, effective organisation and a positive mindset will achieve the best results. I wish students well during this important period.

As we celebrate the Feast of the Trinity this coming Sunday, Pope Francis reminds us “we do not have a solitary God up there in heaven, far away; no, He is the Father who gave us his Son, who became man like us, and who sends his own Spirit to be even closer to us”.   This Trinity Sunday, may we come with hearts full of faith as we look not at ourselves, but the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

I wish you all the joys of the Winter season.

Every blessing,

Winter Prayer
There is a winter in all of our lives,
a chill and darkness
that makes us yearn for days that have gone
or put our hope in days yet to be.
Father God, you created seasons for a purpose.
Winter, cold and bare
as nature takes stock, rests, unwinds,
sleeps until the time is right.

We need a winter in our lives
a time of rest, a time to stand still,
a time to reacquaint ourselves with the faith in which we live.
It is only then that we can draw strength
from the one in whom we are rooted
take time to grow and rise through the darkness
into the warm glow of your springtime
to blossom and flourish
bring colour and vitality into this world, your garden.

Thank you Father for the seasons of our lives
