Visual Arts Prep - Year 6

with Ms Nardo, Ms Mancini , Ms Nishani

Welcome back to Term 4!!!

We were thrilled these last two weeks to welcome back the students to the Art studios.  We hope you have all enjoyed a great break and ready for what promises to be a jam-packed Term 4.

Prep

The students in Prep returned to the Art studio to begin a new Unit of Inquiry which will link into their unit they are unpacking in their classrooms.  Students were knowledgable this fortnight in recalling the different types of lines and shapes they can use within their artwork.  This is in preparation for their technology based artwork that we will start unpacking with them in the coming weeks.

Year 1 and 2

Students in Year 1 and 2 returned to find some of their wonderful relief-sculptures, inspired by Artist Louise Nevelson, on the walls in the Art studios.  Students had an opportunity to complete their work after which they were risk-takers in attempting to create their first Artist Statement.  Students were able to communicate their learnings from this unit and reflect on their progress.

Year 3

The term started off with students in Year 3 completing their final piece for the unit they were unpacking in Term 3.  Students were risk takers in printing their foam-board printed portraits.  They started with a practise in their Visual Art Diary then they reflected on their success before attempting to improve their work.  They then created a set of printed portraits inspired by Pablo Picasso.  The students were then given the opportunity to prepare this work for presentation, including creating an Artist statement to accompany their finished piece of work.  These will soon appear on the walls in the Art rooms so be sure to drop in and visit these displays soon!

Year 4

Year 4's have started the the term  with some fun art activities to get them back into the artistic zone. Students drew pictures of robots and monsters that were created with a  'roll a dice' art activity. The art activity involved rolling a dice and then drawing the picture that corresponded with the number they landed on. Students enjoyed  creating their practises in pencil, then outlining them in black  and creating monster and robot families in their art journals.

Year 5

Year 5 students focused on two activities these first two weeks of term 4. The first activity was preparation for the International Peace poster competition which is run by The International Lions Club. Students have created their 1st draft of their poster depicting images of peace and what they think peace is. This years theme is "Lead with Compassion" and students have been busy creating images that they will use in their poster to tell their story. The second activity is an introduction to their new unit on Graffiti. Students have inquired into the origins and history  of graffiti, how people express themselves through graffiti and why graffiti is their chosen method of their artistic expression.  Students have also developed their typography skills and are experimenting and practising a variety of different graffiti font styles for them to use for their Graffiti Art project.

Year 6

Year 6 students have begun learning a little bit about their next project on Vincent Van Gogh. They have had a little introduction into the story behind the famous Sunflowers series by reading the story 'Camille and the sunflowers" which is a fiction based story of Vincent Van Gogh. They then were able to practice their own rendition of the famous Sunflowers artwork by engaging in the roll a Vincent Van Gogh Sunflowers drawing.  Students in Year 6 Have also been invited to participate in the International Peace poster Competition by the Werribee Lions club.  This years theme is "Lead with Compassion" and students have been busy creating images that they will use in their poster to tell their story and share their vision on Peace.
