Leadership Report

Written by Sarah O'Connor and Sophie Ryan

Welcome back to the final term of the year!

As we begin Term Four, staff, students, and our community are to be congratulated on the completion of three fantastic terms of continuous on-site learning.  We hope that this final term of the year will be a time for reflection on our successes, resilience, and the continuation of our learning journey.

'No Hat, No Play'

Our school has a 'No Hat, No Play' policy in Terms One and Four. We would like to remind families of the importance of students bringing an appropriate hat to school which can be worn during outside play sessions.

We understand that this is often an item of school clothing that can be easily lost. Please ensure that hats are clearly labelled with the student's name. There is usually a large collection of hats in our lost property collection near the front office.

Building Progress

As you may well have noticed, the school is experiencing some changes to its physical appearance. Several single portables have either been removed or relocated and will eventually be replaced by double-storey buildings (similar to those located nearest to Saltwater Promenade). We appreciate your patience and understanding while this transition occurs and trust that you understand how beneficial this will be for our students in future years.

Year Seven Exhibition

I would like to congratulate all the Year Seven students who proudly participated in the Year Seven Exhibition evening on Tuesday. The level of specialist skills and techniques developed by these students was outstanding. Not only did they apply their learning, but they demonstrated a true understanding of the design process required to create solutions and products.

On the back of such a successful launch with families, the exhibition was opened to the primary classes. Needless to say, the Year Seven building was a buzz with “wow” and “ooooooh” on Thursday as the younger students made their way around the exhibition.

Year Three Camp

The Year Three students have also had an eventful start back to the term with a camp at Phillip Island Adventure Resort. Being bold and brave, the students engaged in a range of unique opportunities to develop their independence, team-building and problem-solving. When speaking with the campers on their return, the penguin parade was a clear favourite and one they will never forget.

Prep and Year Seven Transition

As we enter the final stages of the current school year, we begin the transition journey for our new members of the Saltwater p-9 College and the transition of our Year 6 students from the Primary Years Program into Year Seven. On Wednesday night, we hosted our first Year Seven 2023 Parent Information Night and it was an honour to witness such great community support and family engagement. Many parents attended this event to gain an understanding of the Middle Years Program, followed by a tour of the Year Seven building and the viewing of the elective program. I would like to thank the current Year Seven student representatives who volunteered their evening to share their transition journey with our community.

We are also looking forward to the Kinder students visiting our school in preparation for their 2023 start - we can’t wait to have them take their special place in our Saltwater p-9 College family. Next Thursday 20th of October, is the new Prep Parent Information Evening, and we would love to see you there.

Preparing our children for a successful educational experience is a collaborative approach, requiring input and involved between the educators, parents/caregivers and, of course, the students themselves. We will be hosting student sessions later in the term so please continue to check your emails and XUNO notifications to ensure your child is ready for these opportunities. The confirmed Statewide Transition date for Year 6 into 7 is Tuesday 13th December. All other year levels will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Attendance

Every day at school counts. A reminder that if your child is absent from school it important that this is communicated with your child's classroom teacher or the school office on the day they are absent. This can be done by email, phone call or via our XUNO app.

Important Dates

  • Monday 31st October Curriculum Day
  • Tuesday 1st November Melbourne Cup Day

Kind regards,

Sarah O'Connor
