CULINARY CHALLENGE 2022

MS MANDY MCCALLUM - VET HOSPITALITY

This week six of our VET Hospitality students participated in the Murray River Culinary Challenge Interschool Competition. This competition determines the best two cooks who will represent St Mary MacKillop College in the Regional Final in August.

This week the students were judged by two local chefs, Rebecca Hart from Boo's Place Cafe & Provedore and Melissa Brooks from Swan Hill District Health who assessed their cooking skills, workflow, OHS and taste and presentation of the food.

The students were required to cook a three course meal within a fixed time frame. The first course was a Tuscan tomato and bread salad, then a cauliflower and sage risotto for the main. Dessert was the choice of a fruit platter or creating a meal using the ingredients from a mystery box. One student chose the mystery box and cooked a berry tart for the judges while the remaining students presented a fruit platter.

The judges commented on the level of skill the students displayed in both their cooking and organisation and commended them for their participation.

The winners on the day were Ngaire Harlan and Anthony Caccaviello who will now go on to represent MacKillop in the Regional Final against Swan Hill College and Kerang Techical College on the 9th August 2022.
