YEAR 12 FORMAL

JEM SIBLEY - SCHOOL CAPTAIN

On Friday, the 27th of May, the Year 12s had their annual Formal at the Swan Hill Football Clubrooms. The night was full of fun for everyone, with students rocking the dance floor while the teachers had a chance to turn back the clock and be the DJs.

The doors shut at 8 pm and at 7:59pm a surprise entrance by the eventual best-dressed Makwi Dhelbai received a standing ovation and kicked off the night in spectacular fashion before the photo wall became the place to be. We all spent an hour taking photos with each other and our teachers, with everyone making sure they got enough pictures showing off their luxurious suits and dresses.

We then hit the dance floor, belting our lungs out to the old classics and using the modern songs to show off our wide variation of dance moves from the shopping trolley, to the tennis serve and of course, the sprinkler. Our showcase of moves was then broken up for Ms Haley to conduct her annual round of games, using canteen and printer vouchers as incentives - so you could say it was all on the line. It didn’t last long before students lost interest due to the pure dominance of Isabella Gilchrist, who could not be stopped winning every game that she competed in.

We wrapped up the night with the announcement of the 2022 Year 12 Formal Awards, voted on by the teachers who attended. The Best Dancers of the night were awarded to Millie Hinton and Alex Carroll, whose creativity was on display by inventing new moves that kept the dance floor rocking for the entire night. The Best Dressed was deservedly awarded to Meredith Kuchel for her immaculate style and Makwi Dhelbai for his charismatic execution of swagger. Finally, the King and Queen were awarded to Ellie Rollinson and Matthew Molloy for their combination of participation, energy and most certainly, appearance.

We would like to thank the teachers for volunteering to help throughout the night, especially Ms Haley for her cooperation and support to organise the event. It was a very special night for all of us and one that will be hard to forget.
