Anzac Day Dawn Service

On the 25th of April a dawn service was conducted by the Ringwood RSL at the Ringwood Memorial Clocktower to commemorate ANZAC day.

The service echoed the values of courage, respect and the selfless spirit of ANZAC. As representatives of the school we were able to reflect on the sacrifice soldiers made and express our commiseration by laying a wreath. We encourage the rumination of ANZAC day and hope as a community we can continue to pay our respect to the men and women who served for our country during the war.

Zoo Trip for the Year 9

An exciting day at the zoo today for year 9 students who saw Fijian iguanas up close in the Educator sessions and witnessed an incredibly clever Orangutan try to mix with student and public through problem solving and altering engineering!

State Swimming and Diving Championships

Once again Ringwood was represented at the School Sports Victoria State Swimming Championships that were held on Thursday the 22nd of April at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic centre. We had Taylor Viney compete in the 18-20 Yr old girls breastroke.  She won the Bronze medal in a race that saw the winner shave a second off the record. Well done Taylor.

With Cade Cavanagh having to pull out due to a broken arm our next race was the girls 18-20 Yr freestyle relay where we had Tarni Cavanagh, Zali Beck, Lucy Reed and Taylor Viney compete. The girls swam a good race in a very competitive field coming in at fourth.

Congratulations to all our state representatives. A big thankyou in particular to Zali Beck and Tarni Cavanagh (our Yr 12 students) for their involvement in school swimming throughout their time at Ringwood.  They have been wonderful representatives of the school and fantastic role models for our junior students.

Tarni congratulations also on your performance in the State Diving. Another drive out to MSAC on the Friday saw  you compete in both the Region and State diving competitions on the same day. Winning the Silver medal was a fantastic result. Well done.

Senior Girls Footy

A good win by the Senior girls footy team against our only opposition on the day Mooroolbark. We stepped out onto the park looking pretty flash in our new uniforms and were lucky enough to get the game completed before it started bucketing down.

Ringwood dominated the game in all areas and came away with a comfortable win. We showed plenty of skill and speed on the day, but definitely  looked like a team that hadn’t played together for some time.  It was a good first hit out, helping us to identify some areas to work on as we get ready for Region. Goal kicking practice will be one of those areas. 😂

Final score was   Mooroolbark 2 – 1 – 13  v Ringwood 11 – 18 - 84

National Ride to School Day – Friday 19th March

National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel and one of the best days on the school calendar. It is a day full of fun and colour where students, teachers and parents discover the joy of riding and kick-start healthy habits for the future. At Ringwood Secondary College, many regular bike riders were joined by occasional and first timers for this event, with all participants enjoying a special breakfast and accruing points for their House.

Many thanks to all the Student Leaders who helped out during the event and a big shout out to all the teachers who assisted. Ms Bailey, Mr Gardner and Mr Taylor did a wonderful job cooking and serving the breakfast, and thanks to Ms Alder for taking the photos. I look forward to seeing students continuing to ride their bikes to school and hopefully increase our numbers even further at next year’s event.
