Principal

Welcome back to term 2. The term has commenced with the usual flurry of activity and a strong continuing focus on student learning.

Our whole school assembly on April 23rd, provided an opportunity to commemorate Anzac Day with all of our students.

The theme focussed on commemorating the Spirit of Anzac and reflecting on some of the untold stories. Students from every year level and the Symphonic Band did a superb job in presenting the music befitting for such a commemorative ceremony and was highlighted by the playing of the Last Post and Rouse.

On Anzac morning, our school leaders in Lucy Philp and Lachlan O’Donnell represented our College at the Ringwood RSL Dawn Service in Ringwood at the Clocktower. Lest We Forget!

Ringwood Secondary College’s Information and Open Night was held on Tuesday as one of a number of activities that highlight the educational options for students at our school.

This evening supplements the program of school tours that runs throughout the school year. The weather was kind to us this year and it was a pleasure to highlight our new learning environments and outline plans for the future the turnout was again substantial with estimates of over 800 people in attendance. The demand for places at Year 7 for 2020 is again expected to be strong, with applications closing on May 14, 2021. The Department’s site provides information about every school including enrolment zone maps. https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au

Our students are fantastic representatives of the College and very positive in their outlook and perspective. I would particularly like to thank our teaching and support staff for their efforts in preparing for the evening and particularly acknowledge the work of Mrs Leah Pritchard, Mr Josh Mitchell and the Junior School team.

Many of you would now be aware that the NAPLAN online testing for Year 7 and Year 9 students commences on May 10 and will occur at various times over the two-week period. NAPLAN Online is a ‘tailored test’ , whose design adapts to correct and incorrect student responses providing a more precise understanding of student ability. Incorporating the use of technology, allows for a more engaging test design and a wider range of item types.

WE WANT OUR STUDENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

We value student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing, and quality instruction, and are conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our college.

The Attitudes to School Survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist our college to gain an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, bullying and life in general.

All students from Ringwood Secondary College, will participate in the survey. Your child will complete the survey online during school hours using a purpose built secure online survey tool.

Your child will be provided with a unique login to complete the survey. The student login is an assigned identifier that may be used to link data for statistical and research purposes only. All responses to the survey an any identification data are kept anonymous in the survey response file. This ensures that the confidentiality of your child’s responses is protected at all times.

This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted at our school at appropriate times throughout May. The survey takes around 20 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class time. Importantly, the results of the survey assist us to monitor the effectiveness of approaches identified in our College Strategic Plan and to consider further opportunities for improvement.
