The Arts

Designed by Cleo Temouskos 2016

The Creative and Performing Arts department has had a busy and exciting past few weeks at Epping Secondary College. There have been a range of excursions, incursions and performances running for students to experience what the arts have to offer outside of the classroom!

Our VCE students are currently building up their folios and journals of evidence in our Studio Arts, Visual Communication Design and Media subjects and we have hit the ground running in Term 2. Here are some of the things our students have been up to in the arts at ESC…

Art / Studio Arts:

Students went to see the top performing VCE students from 2020 at the Top Arts exhibition in Federation Square. These folios and artworks are great to get access to as students gain a solid understanding of what a high-achieving folio looks like – and of course that these goals are achievable!

Media:

Media students are currently working hard on their folios – for both photography and videography. Mr. McKay recently took his students to ACMI to see the wonders of Media Arts in Melbourne.

Drama: Year 8 students experienced an incursion with professionals in the industry to give them an insight to career trajectories in the performing arts.

Visual Communication Design: The Viscom students have been hard at work – particularly in the senior years. Year 11 & 12 students participated in a Copic Marker workshop recently with Tania from Zart art. The workshop allows students to explore the variety that Copic Markers have to offer and develop their core rendering skills to build up tone and texture in their communications. Year 12 Viscom students are currently underway with their folios for the year. They recently went to the Melbourne Museum to see the Top Designs forum and folio works – where they were able to see some of the highest-scoring works from 2020. Students will soon be going to Torrens University to participate in a design thinking workshop which will allow students to brainstorm, develop their ideas from their folios and to build their critical and creative thinking skills.

Music / VET Music: There are a range of bands and music groups being built at the school and students from other areas of the school can come to see Open Studio performances at lunchtimes. This is a great way for music students to practice their performance skills, tackle that stage fright and expose the school community to our Music domain!

Subject Selections:

Subject selections for Year 9 and 10 students are fast approaching. Students interested in the Arts subjects at all can contact Ms.Gallina via Xuno if they require any information about Visual Arts, Visual Communication Design, Media, Music, or Drama.

Can’t wait to see what creative endeavours our students get up to this term!
