Senior School Learning

Year 3 and 4

Grades 3 and 4 have been enjoying their cross country training. Students have been running around the school block challenging themselves to see how many laps they can

complete. They have also been playing games that involve a lot of running including Capture the Flag and Run the Gauntlet. Well done to all students who participated last Friday.

In Maths students have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We have been finding out what makes up a shape and learning the formal names like: vertices, apex and edges. In this task students had to draw a picture using 2 and 3D shapes. Once they completed their picture, they had to work out how many of each different shape they used. They also had to count up the number of vertices, apex, edges and faces that made up each shape. Please enjoy some of these student work samples:

Year 5 and 6

Great learning about the Great Barrier Reef!

To begin Term 2, Grade 5/6s have started a brand new literacy unit. We are investigating the Great Barrier Reef and what makes it so unique. Students have spent time in Reading and Writing building their understanding of the Great Barrier Reef ecosystem and how it works. Over the next few weeks, students will look deeper into pollution and how humans have impacted the reef's growth.

We have used our investigations about the Great Barrier Reef to help write detailed, persuasive paragraphs. Students have used their new knowledge to persuade readers that 'The Great Barrier Reef is the best place in the World!'.

Buddies!

In the last few weeks of Term 1, the Grade 5/6 students spent significant time designing, writing and publishing narrative picture story books for their new Foundation buddies! On Wednesday, Foundation and Grade 5/6 buddies came together to meet each other and spend some quality time together. Buddies shared their picture story books and got to know each other. We hope the Foundation students loved their special Buddy book!
