Pathways Update

White Card Training

White card training took place at Mornington Secondary College on Monday 23rd May, 2022 for all students who registered prior.

White card training provides participants with basic knowledge of the work health and safety (WHS) laws, common site hazards, associated risks and how to respond and control. The white card is issued at the successful completion of the course allowing holders to legally work on construction sites.

We have another training day planned in August, we will investigate another event if there is sufficient interest (please follow steps below).

Year 9-12 students looking for work experience, a structured work placement (VCAL/VET) or a career in construction will be required to complete this training. The Construction (OH&S) Induction Card (CIC) – referred to as White Card Training establishes general, industry-wide OH&S training and is a requirement for all people who work on construction sites in both domestic and commercial.

Students will be added to this event on receipt of their USI (Unique Student Identifier).

Minimum student numbers are 10 and the Maximum is 20

The cost of training is $70.00

Year 9 and 10

Year 9 & Year 10 students have recently completed their Career Action Plans. This forms part of their "My Career" Portfolio which also includes access to careers resources and somewhere to store files related to their career planning eg resumes, awards and examples of school work.

Year 10 Work Experience

This is a very exciting program and we enjoy learning about all the different workplaces/industries students find for their Work Experience.

Students might like to contact local employers or research larger companies (under

parental/guardian guidance and approval). Students are not to undertake work experience at their casual/part time jobs. They should research jobs they are interested in beyond MSC and take the time to contact employers to discuss availability.

Students can choose any 5 days between

23rd May to 16th September.  A few exceptions to this around Exams and Course Selection.

The DET (Department of Education & Training) have specific requirements for schools implementing work experience placements for secondary students. The 2022 Work Experience Guide has been developed by the MSC Pathways/Careers Team for MSC students to assist with understanding these requirements.
