Primary School News

What an exciting week it’s been in the Primary Sub School! All classrooms had a swimming lesson at the Broadmeadows Leisure Centre on Friday. For many students, this was their very first excursion, and for others, it was their first school excursion since pre-COVID. Our teachers and education support staff worked together to support students to move from the classroom to the bus, and then from the bus safely into the swimming centre. At the pool, some of our parents were there waiting to help with drying, changing and supervising students. A sincere THANK YOU to our parent helpers who support us with this excursion. We have three more swimming lessons remaining, with the second lesson today, Friday. If you are interested in volunteering your time at the pool on Friday while your child has their lesson, please let your child’s teacher know.
At school, students have engaged in activities that our speech therapists created. These activities are ‘hands-on,’ activities that encourage the use of the Core Vocabulary Board. Our therapists design the activities to focus on specific words. There are bright colours to choose from, glue sticks to open, pieces to put together, and toys to have more time playing with – all while staff model these words on the Core Vocabulary Board. These lessons are great because they can easily be adapted to cater for all our students’ communication needs.
Room 6
Room 6 has had a very busy year so far. Enjoyed activities have included; walks around the school block in preparation for excursions next term, swimming excursions, gardening and cooking, maths and English games and celebrating student birthday parties. In Number and Algebra, students have been learning to add or subtract numbers and identify numerals. In Measurement and Geometry, students have been exploring big and small, long and short, heavy and light. In English, students have worked hard to identify the letters in their name and letter sounds, communicate with staff and peers and contribute to class texts about their school activities. Students have practised being good friends, using kind words, sharing and taking turns.
