Sport Update

Without the amazing support of the staff at Brentwood, the sport program wouldn’t happen. Brentwood staff volunteer their time to get involved; it is not an expectation to help out, but staff are happy to assist as a coach, an official, a team manager, or a supporter so our students can “have a go”. Thank you.

Just recently Danielle Batson received a School Sport Victoria (SSV) award recognising her contribution to school sport. Danielle has made significant contributions towards the sports program since moving to Brentwood; even with a heavy Humanities and VCE Legal Studies load. She always offers to coach and be part of our Brentwood sports program. She is very giving of her time and adaptable to every situation. Most lunchtimes you will often see her out on the oval, basketball court or tennis court motivating and coaching students.

Sarah Swilks was also recognised with a SSV 10 year service award. Her leadership and ongoing support during the establishment of the Monash Division (secondary) was and is outstanding. Sarah has worked tirelessly with the Monash Division school sport coordinators in providing an excellent and professional sporting experience for our students.

I was also awarded with a SSV 20 year service award. I love sports organisation and providing students with the opportunities to get involved. I have seen the growth of Brentwood’s sporting reputation improve over this time. The quality of our teams, the passion of our staff coaching, our specialised uniform and sporting equipment, and most of all the students bonding over a shared experience.

In 2021 we had the challenge of snap lockdowns, and the ongoing cancellations and rescheduling of sporting events. The Brentwood staff (both teaching and administration) and the students were extremely adaptable and resilient.

Looking towards 2022, many of the external venues used for House Carnivals, Monash Division, EMR and State sport will have vaccination requirements for staff, students and parents. Currently the Monash Aquatic and Recreation Centre, that is used for our House Swimming Carnival early in February, are requesting QR check in and proof of double vaccinations for 16 and over.

TeamVic 2022

For those students who might be interested in trying out for a School Sport Victoria (SSV) TeamVic interstate sports team please check the www.ssv.vic.edu.au website (information available early in 2022). There are various closing dates for nominations. To be eligible you must be under the age indicated as at 31 December 2022 or otherwise stated.

Simply click on the ‘TeamVic’ button on the website at the top of the SSV webpage, and then click on the sport you are interested in. All the information will be available on their website. Trial fees are paid at the same time and can only be paid using a credit card.

Also, if you are still 12 and under in a secondary school you are eligible to try out for a Primary (SSV) TeamVic interstate team.

Missing: Brentwood Sport Specialised Team Uniforms

As you spring clean or change your bedroom layout during the Summer break, keep an eye out for any missing Brentwood Sport Specialised team uniforms. Sometimes they are taken home by mistake, and we are always very welcoming of their return to Brentwood. So, drop them off to the main office or the PE staffroom when you return. No questions asked!

Finally, I would like to thank our sport captains for 2021: Kasey Thompson, Kyle Kim, Maddy Lowe, Ethan Wright, Natasha Higgins, Patrick Warr, Aisha Woon, Atheeq Rizwan, Anna Jin, Zoe Wright, Hayley Browne and Julia Hipwell. Thank you for your continued support, your participation, and your eagerness to lead Brentwood to success.
