Education in Faith

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Mini Vinnies Christmas Appeal has now begun. This year all the items and presents we collect will be going to the St Vincent de Paul Conference, Hampton Park based at St Kevin’s. They will then distribute them to families in need in our area.

Your child has brought home a tag with a food/Christmas/toiletry item to bring to school for their Home group hamper.

All items will need to be at school by Friday 10th December.

If you would like to buy a present for a child, tags are now on the Christmas trees. Christmas trees are located in each Learning Space this year. Students will need a note written in their diaries by parents to collect a tag. LSOs in each Learning Space will assist them to collect a tag. All Christmas presents will need to be wrapped with the tag attached and shown to Home Group teachers and then placed under the Christmas trees by Friday 10th December.

A reminder that students will be given House points for each item/gift they bring in. These points will go towards the House Community Spirit Award which will be presented at the end of the year.

Thank you for your support!!

2nd Sunday of Advent - Year C

In our readings this week, the second Sunday in Advent, we are reminded by Saint Luke that someone very special is coming. He introduces us to a most interesting character, John the Baptist. Luke places the beginning of John the Baptist’s ministry when God speaks to him while he was in the wilderness of the desert where he hears the word of God.

John the Baptist understands that he has important work to do. He announces the coming of the Lord, and those who hear him look forward with great anticipation. John prepares the way for Jesus.

With boldness and determination, John urges people to get ready to welcome this special person and be prepared for the coming of Jesus, proclaiming a baptism of repentance to repent, be baptised and prepare the way of the Lord for the forgiveness of sins.

During the season, the Second Sunday of Advent we are reminded to be aware and prepare the way for Jesus. We listen to the message of John the Baptist, and prepare for the coming of the Lord. The theme is that God gives us a reason to hope in the promise of salvation.

Therefore, in this season of Advent we watch and wait. We hope in the promise of salvation. The message of salvation, impressed upon us by the prophets, makes us who we are this Advent -- a people preparing for the day, hoping in God’s promise.

Advent is a time when we think about our actions and try to make sure that we are ready for the coming of Jesus. We think about what we could do better and try to make a change to our lives.

Prayer

Loving God, you want the whole world to welcome Jesus.

Help us to get ready and prepare for his coming

by changing our lives for the better.

Merciful God, you sent John the Baptist to prepare

the people for the coming of your Son, Jesus.

Lead us to make positive changes in our lives and the lives of others around the world.

We make this prayer to you through Christ our Lord,

Amen.
