Farm

Daniel de Beer

Farm Manager

Madison Corsini

Assistant Farm Manager

The Year 11’s had their first day this Monday and all finished their Farm inductions very efficiently. We look forward to seeing the second group next Monday for their inductions.

Term 1 is all about shearing and it kicked off today, with the AWI trainers ready to help our Year 12 shearers refine their art.  This will continue for the rest of the term and we expect a high yielding cut on the back of a fantastic fodder producing season in 2021.

The Year 11’s will be able to have a go on Mondays and Tuesdays and we will encourage everyone to do so. While the Year 12 Certificate III Wool and Certificate II Shearing Students will pick up the pace on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Lime spreading has just started and we all hope its nice calm days ahead of us. This is a great opportunity for the Year 12’s to finish of their Operate Tractors competency if they haven’t done so already. On that note just a reminder to all Year 12’s, that they only have three terms left and you are only on farm every fortnight…. You don’t have to be great at maths to work out that you don’t have a lot of time left! If you don’t want to comeback in Term 4, it is time to get serious and put in the hard work.  Enjoy the next few weeks.

Uniform

Students have now been reminded on farm numerous times about the expectation of being dressed in correct work clothes and PPE required for Farm. As per the guidelines I have outlined a few major ones below that have been communicated in morning roll call for students to follow, as compass reports will be written from now on.

Dress Standards & Safety Equipment

  • All students are required to wear high viz farm clothing as per clothing list.
  • College farm work clothes consist of neat clean trousers and shirts, jumper, or college jacket, free from tears or rips.
  • Broad brimmed college bucket hats are compulsory during Term One and Four.
  • Long hair always needs to be tied back and if necessary, secured with a hair net.
  • Students must bring their own personal issue safety glasses to Farm.
  • Sunscreen is provided at the farm workshop and students are encouraged to make regular use of it.
  • No mobile phones on farm (students). The phone may be confiscated and stored in the College safe.

Weekend Duty

I would just like to thank all those students who have completed or nominated for their 2 weekend duties for this year and next. The Rosters are complete and if you are unsure on what date you have been given, please get in contact with Mrs Corsini.  Just a reminder that swapping weekend roster is strongly discouraged but in the event this situation arises students must give a valid reason, two weeks notice to Mrs Corsini, and finding another student to replace them.  Students and parents have access to the roster through daily notices, Farm noticeboard, College Chatter and via email and parents can also access the information in the fortnightly College Chatter.
