Clovelly Park Primary School’s Intensive English Language Program paused in 2022

The impact of COVID has significantly reduced the number of enrolments into the Intensive English Language Program across the South Australia. As of next year, 7 Intensive English Language Centre's will be paused. Students accessing the program have reduced from approximately 1300-1500 down to 221 in 2022. Clovelly Park Primary School is a site that has been 'paused'. Our remaining students will attend the Intensive English Language Program at Darlington Primary School next year. As you can imagine, this has been tough news for our school and we look forward to the Australian borders reopening and our Intensive English Language Program flourishing again.

Celebrating different cultures in G2

The students have been looking at the different cultures in our class. As not everyone in our class celebrates Christmas, we decided to make a non-Christmas Christmas tree. In G2 we have Kurdish, Nepalese, Australian, Scottish and German heritages!  Each child has been teaching others about their cultures and their significant holidays such as Easter, Christmas, Diwali, Nawroz and Eid. We have been learning about the different folk stories different cultures have, and what they mean to their culture.

Measuring in R3

R3 enjoyed exploring capacity with bird seed and rice. They explored when containers were full and empty, and some children counted how many small containers would fill bigger ones.

In addition, we have made a gingerbread train! Each child was involved in decorating and constructing the train and everyone will take some home to eat.

Christmas Trees

We have a collage on display in the front office showing beautiful Christmas trees created by R1 students and a medley of decorated mini trees put together by R2 students.  Our Indonesian students also added some cheerful little reindeers made from wooden clothes pegs!
