FETE

It was great to see so many people at the fete, and the Japan Shop had many visitors keen to purchase a Japanese item. Arigatou (thank you!) to all of our helpers on the stall, and also to all of our customers – we hope you enjoy your items!

One of the biggest sellers on the night were POCKY sticks. They are chocolate-coated biscuit sticks. Pocky are very popular snacks in Japan, especially amongst teenagers. Pocky was first sold in 1966, and now over 500 million packs of Pocky are sold per year in over 30 countries.

HOME MADE POCKY by Adam Liaw

Here is an easy recipe from Adam Liaw to make your own (jumbo) pocky sticks at home!

Fat pocky. A homemade snack that is perfect for those occasions when your kid has to bring something to school or to a party. Today was #HarmonyDay so a lot of parents had to make something their kids can share at school. I thought I’d see what I could come up with that was fast, cheap and easily transportable. This is just 3 ingredients, $7 and the whole lot can fit in a school backpack at less than 400g (including the container). A pack of breadsticks (grissini), 375g dark chocolate and some sprinkles. Melt the chocolate in the microwave, put it in a cup, dip and sprinkle. 25 serves done in less than 10 minutes! Scroll through for a few design options.
