Harmony Week
Last week we celebrated Harmony week with lots of activities happening across the school. We heard from special guests at morning announcement time to tell us about their families and why Harmony Week was important to them.
There were a number of activities at lunchtime throughout the week including Rangoli Art, Karaoke and a French Cartoon. This really tested the students’ ability to pick up on the visual cues from the film to assist in their understanding.
The Library launched its new Cultural Section with students having the chance to easily find a book with cultural significance and read it during their Library time.
Some thoughts from across the school included:
- Last week I was a special guest on morning announcements. It was very nervous speaking on the microphone. I told everyone about where I came from and when I came to Australia. Harmony Week means that everyone can achieve even if we came from different places. - Keila Yr 3
- Harmony Week was all about respecting our elders, past and present. We learnt about this last week by be practising being nice to each other. Respect goes two ways, if I show it, it will be shown back to me. - Maxdon Yr 5.
- 'Harmony makes little things grow and lack of it makes big things decay.’ This quote helps me remember that we are all the same even if we have different religions or cultures. - Tilly Yr 6
- Harmony Week means that everyone should respect others no matter what culture or age. Last week I enjoyed seeing everyone happy, smiling and respecting others. - Missy Yr 4
- Harmony week means we need to make all of our friends happy and not feel sad. If you make them sad, it just won’t be harmony Week. - Ruby Yr 1.

Collaborative Learning Days
Over the next two weeks each year level will participate in Collaborative Learning Days. These days have a multi-focus; as students get to create connections with another year level and learn important team building, creativity and communication skills, while teachers have the chance to reflect on the learning from the term and refocus planning for the term ahead. These days have proven successful in the past 18 months and have assisted in building a tight knit culture amongst students and staff.
On Collaborative Learning Days the following year levels are partnered together:
Prep and Year 6 Year 2 and Year 4
Year 1 and Year 5 Scotsburn and Year 3
