Principal's Report

School Fete

What a great event for our school on Friday night.  The weather turned out to be perfect, which certainly helped attract an enormous crowd and the atmosphere was brilliant.

We go to the trouble of running a fete for 3 basic reasons:

To raise some funds for the school – Unfortunately the funds we receive from government don’t allow us to do a lot of things that we’d really like to, so our fetes and concerts make it possible to get some of those projects done.

Early next term we will be able to announce the profit made from the fete, however early indications would suggest we have made quite a bit more than any previous fetes. Largely this is because we made the decision to do all of the food ourselves, which was a massive effort, but well worth it. A big thankyou to Tracey Coats who coordinated the food side of things.

We’re going to end up taking around $33,000 and making a profit of approximately $22-23,000.  As previously communicated, the profits will go towards:

  • Creating a home economics room at our Buninyong Campus.
  • Building an outdoor BBQ area at our Scotsburn Campus.

We hope to get started on both projects next term.

Community Building – Events like the fete have the potential to bring together staff, parents, students and members of the broader community to achieve something special.  That was certainly the case on Friday night, with a great team effort on a number of fronts resulting in a fantastic community event….something we can all be proud of.

Our staff and a large contingent of parent and student helpers did an outstanding job preparing for the fete and running stalls and events on the night.  We ought to say well done to our Fundraising Team who did so well leading the way and pulling everything together.

It was wonderful to see so many school families and members of the broader community come along to support the fete and have some fun.  The financial support received from school families and local businesses was outstanding.  On today’s newsletter we acknowledge donations received for the raffles and auctions and over the coming few weeks we’ll do what’s required to show our appreciation to others in the community that helped out in various ways.

Providing a Memorable Experience for our Students - The students were all very excited during the week at school and it was wonderful seeing them have such a good time once Friday evening finally came.  We try to organise a range of activities at the fete so there is something of interest for everyone.  That was certainly achieved this year.  The fete also provided lots of opportunities for the students to learn from helping to plan and run events and we’ve received lots of positive feedback on that front over the past few days.

So overall we are very pleased with the 2019 School Fete and thanks again to everyone who supported the fete in any way and helped make the event so successful.  Our next major event will be the School Concert in term 3 of next year.

PICK UPS AND DROP OFFS

Please be patient and careful when doing the daily drop off or pick up.  With so many students and families, it’s always going to be busy at peak times, but that doesn’t last long.  We are actually lucky to have a few different drop off and pick up areas, so it could be a lot worse.  So please take your time and remember that accidents easily happen in busy periods around schools and sometimes the consequences are disastrous.

And don’t forget, it can be a great option to park a street or 2 away where you can easily get a park, even between 3:20 and 3:30pm.  That gives your children the opportunity to get some exercise and you get to avoid the traffic crush.  This won’t work for everyone, but is a great option for some.

It has been fabulous to see so many students riding their bikes to and from school this year, which undoubtedly helps reduce traffic around the school.  Later this year we hope to build a 2nd bike shed up the east end of the school grounds as the existing bike shed is loaded with bikes and scooters virtually every day at the moment.

Putting Faces to Names

It was brought to our attention during the School Fete that some parents and friends of the school were a little unsure of who was who.  So to help you all out or to refresh some memories, below is a list and photos of all staff at the school.

Bended Knee Music Festival

The first ever Bended Knee Music Festival is happening in Buninyong this Saturday and Buninyong Primary School has been invited to send along some students to perform at the Town Hall.  Our students will be performing between 2:15 and 3pm.

Please come along and show your support and of course, we wish out talented kids all the best for their performance. It should be an exciting event!
