SIS Debating Competition
Last week our students from both Clyde North and Cranbourne Campus’s competed in the Southern Independent Schools (SIS) debating competition. This event is one of many extra extension opportunities offered at the College. Debating increases learners' confidence, poise, and self-esteem through provision of an engaging, active, learner-centred activity. Debating improves rigorous higher order and critical thinking skills and enhances the ability to structure and organize thoughts.
Congratulations to our wonderful students who worked so hard on their debates attending many lunchtime sessions for feedback and coaching. Topics debated ranged from banning mobile phones in schools, social media friends not being real friends and banning food deliveries at school!
Our Cranbourne second junior team was on camp for this round, so three new students stepped up for the challenge. They were narrowly beaten in both prepared and unprepared debates but are ready to step up for the challenge of intermediate debating next year.
Junior Team Two: Alannah Egan, Arshdeep Singh, Talia Unsworth and Kiara St Mart.
Our experienced Cranbourne Junior Team 1 and our Intermediate Team both won their prepared debate and lost their unprepared. Congratulations to the Junior Team One: Latesha Franks, Bonny Cortese and Scarlett Bastow and the Intermediate Team: Alana Wilkins, Aishwarya Jaganathan, Gurvisha Singh and Bailee Kehagias. We are waiting on ladder results to see which of these teams go through to the semi-finals.
Our Senior Cranbourne Team had a very successful day winning both prepared and unprepared and will represent us in semi-finals. They were challenged by the topics – climbing Uluru and banning safe-injecting rooms. Well done: Joshua Bennett, Darcy Paulka, Ashwin Palanisamy and Bethany Tai.
Cranbourne Teams were coached by Greg Nelson, Bernadette McDermott and aided on the day by Kirsty Warren (Pre-service teacher from ACU). I thank the teachers who also take the time to train and encourage our students.
Best speakers for Clyde North were: Natalie D’Souza (twice in one day!) Angelina Nou, Janice Yates and Alliah Garcia (who also did a magnificent job as an unofficial captain, mentor and leader).
Clyde North Teams were Coaches by Ms Michelle Roberts and Mrs Ann Thomas
2020 VCE Subject Allocations
Dear Parents and Guardians
The allocation of subjects for 2020 is determined by student choice via Web Preferences subject selection. I am delighted to announce that the College will offer the following subjects in 2020. As we continue to grow as a College we will endeavour to continue to offer an expanded range of options for our students.
As a College we constantly look for creative ways to offer as many options as possible. This means in 2020 that Year 12 Literature will once again run via Video Link across Campus. Students will have contact time with their teacher spread across the 9 periods allocated and will undertake incursions to the respective Campus throughout the year.
Because of the extremely low numbers of students wishing to complete some courses, these will be offered as combination classes.
If you have any further questions regards these subjects or other curriculum matters, please do not hesitate to contact myself at the College on 5990 7777.
