Summer Uniform

All parents are reminded that students are permitted to wear either Winter or Summer uniform in the last two weeks of Term 3.  This must not be a combination of both uniforms but a choice of one or the other.  This change was made after discussion with the Student Representative Council last year.

From Monday, 9 September 2019 to Friday, 20 September 2019, either Winter or Summer uniform is permitted.  From the beginning of Term 4, Summer uniform only is to be worn.

Year 12 students are permitted to wear their Year 12 tops with their summer uniform as an alternative to the blazer in Term 4.  The exception is for the two Campus Assemblies, when students are required to dress formally.  This requires blazers to be worn with full summer uniform on these last two days of Year 12:  Tuesday, 22 October 2019 and Wednesday, 23 October 2019.

Augustine House Activity - Beep Test

This week has seen the start of the Augustine House Activity which has taken the form of a Beep Test. This ‘multi stage fitness test’ is a standardised assessment of a person’s fitness level. The Health & PE teachers use it to estimate a student’s VO2 capacity and it can also be used as a benchmark against the fitness requirements for various sports. Basically, it is a very helpful tool for working out a person’s fitness level.

In this competition, each house can have as many participants as they want to put forward.  However, only the best male and female runners from junior, intermediate and senior will contribute to the house score. If two houses draw an age group event, then the points for that position will be split. If a house does not enter a runner in an event the house will not receive any points for that event. The house with the most points at the end of the six events will be declared the winner.

The two senior and two intermediate events have been completed and the juniors will compete on Monday, 9 September 2019 to determine the overall winner.

Seniors – Monday 2/9/19

Intermediate – Tuesday 3/9/19

Environment Club - Clean Water & Environment Quiz

VCAL and the Environment Club have combined through the efforts of Lara Breen & Samara Yazbek. They have organised a Clean Water and Environment Quiz to begin next week.

The quiz involves all the houses participation in 3 rounds of questions over two lunchtimes.  The first two rounds will be on Tuesday, 10 September 2019 and the last round (Grand Final) will be on Monday, 16 September 2019.

Each House will need to research the topic of clean water and sanitation and its relevance to the environment. There will be five students in each team with at least one member from Junior, Middle or Senior years.  Each round will see half the houses knocked out until we are left with a victorious house.  Good luck to all our participants.

First Round - 4 groups: 10 Multiple Choice Questions about clean water and the environment.

Second Round - 2 groups: 5 Multiple Choice Questions and 2 Short Answer on Clean Water and the Environment.

Third Round - 1 group 2 houses: 10 Multiple Choice Questions and 2 Short answer about clean water and the environment.

Student Radio

Nadia Karaan and Joey Kariman of the Arts Collective, have worked tirelessly and creatively to launch the St. Peter’s College Student Radio.  This is the first time in many years that we have seen Student Radio return to the Central Courtyard.  By all reports, it was very well received, as students enjoyed the music and the discussion of a number of topical issues such as bushfires in the Amazon Rainforest and Spiderman in the Marvel Universe.  Less esoteric but equally relevant was the reporting of various SIS results.

RUOK? Day

What has previously been marked as an important day at St. Peter’s College, RUOK? Day is clearly developing into a week of care and concern for those on Cranbourne Campus.  The VCAL students and Student Well-being Team have joined forces to present an array of activities next week. These are designed to help staff and students look for signs that people need extra care and then help them to responsibly express that care.

RUOK? activities will include showing videos and doing quizzes in Tutor Group, art work, giving and receiving flowers, music, food and finishes with the colour run on the oval.  Students should be reminded that they will ONLY be permitted to participate in the colour run if they wear a white t-shirt with their Sports Uniform. Students participating in the colour run can wear their Sports Uniform all day.  Before the colour run, they should put a white t-shirt over their Sports Uniform or change into a white t-shirt.

The colour run will be held on Thursday, 12 September 2019 in the remaining 30 minutes of the school day.  I request parents to support their child or children in participating in this event if they want, as it is a great fun and certainly will help them to feel OK at the end of the day.

Active Day - Tuesday, 17 September 2019

Once again our dynamic VCAL students have organised an exciting program for Active Day (formerly Footy Colours Day).

  • Students are invited to wear a jumper/top of the SPORTS team of their choice (eg. Australian Rules, Netball, Basketball, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Soccer, local sports team).
  • Students may also wear casual pants/skirt with a SPORTS jumper/top.
  • Students may also wish to wear a football scarf or beanie, but this is to be worn in addition to any SPORTS jumper/top.
  • Any student wearing SPORTS jumper/top is to make a gold coin donation.
  • This money will be donated to both the Society of St Vincent de Paul and the Bishop Epalle School in the Solomon Islands.
  • Please note that students using this as an opportunity simply to wear casual clothes will be sent home or put in isolation for the day according to the Zero Tolerance Uniform Policy.

Some of the activities on Cranbourne Campus include:

Traffic Safety

The traffic supervisors have asked that we remind students who are being dropped off at school by car that they NOT stop in the right hand turn lane or at the bus stop on Cranbourne-Frankston Road.  It is not safe for students, illegal and unfair on those drivers doing the correct thing of driving into the school.
