Learning in J07

Junior School J07 Higgins is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

In Term 2 in J07 we were reading and writing about fairy tales.  In our Narrative writing unit we  designed our own characters and settings and used these to write narratives.  We have been busy reading the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk and have had a go at growing our own beanstalks. We then wrote detailed procedures on how you could grow your own beanstalk.  If you were able to attend our Open afternoon and had a chance to see the Year 1 Writing display you may have come face to face with the giant or heard him from all the way up the top of the giant beanstalk.

In J07 we have also been working hard on finding ‘good fit’ books to read in our Reader’s Workshop lessons.  As a class we have decided that for a book to be ‘good fit’ we must find it interesting and be able to read most of the words by using our reading strategies such as sounding out each letter sound, using the pictures and thinking about what would make sense.  J07 students have enjoyed reading a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. Here are a few of our favourite ‘good fit’ books we are reading at the moment.
