Emmanuel – a Faith Family
When we experience setbacks, our most common response is our worst response: We want to withdraw, to build a wall around ourselves and to push people away.
But that’s the last thing we should do.
When setbacks leave our faith weak, we need other people to trust God for us. We need a Faith Family to help support us.
When Job lost his family, finances, and health, it was a devastating setback—just as it would have been for anyone.
But here’s what one of Job’s friends told him: “Don’t let your anger and the pain you endured make you sneer at God . . . Others have praised God for what he has done, so join with them” (Job 36:18).
When we are in the midst of troubles we should not get bitter. We should join with others who can pray and worship with us, supporting us during a difficult time. The Apostle Paul knew this and he had many opportunities to experience troubles on his faith journey.
“Because you are praying for me and the Spirit of Jesus Christ is helping me, I know this trouble will bring my freedom” (Philippians 1:19).
There are some useful ways to receive this support.
Firstly we can choose to surround our self with people of faith.
We can join with others for worship at a local church. Worshiping with other people gives a new perspective on our difficulties.
We can also get involved in some kind of small group bible study. Most churches are too big to build relationships just through attending worship services. It’s better to meet regularly with a smaller group of people where we can not only study the Bible, but we can also share our pain and pray with others.
Finding a comeback on our own strength is difficult. We need God’s people to build us up and help us focus on God and away from our troubles.
Emmanuel Christian Community School is a Faith Family. As a ministry of the Church, the School is a place where support can be found alongside support from the Church. We are certainly blessed to be a part of this wonderful faith filled community.
