Work Experience with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
Applications are now open for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s Work Experience Program in 2020.
During their time with the MSO, students will have the opportunity to meet with and interview musicians and staff, mix with MSO’s industry-leading artistic team, observe orchestral rehearsals, explore Melbourne’s arts precinct, and gain access to discounted offers on concert tickets.
If you have a passion for music, performance or the arts, this could be a wonderful experience.

Apprenticeship with Metro Trains in Melbourne
Metro Trains are currently seeking applications for an Apprenticeship program in Melbourne.
They are looking for a number motivated, pro-active and enthusiastic Apprentice Signal Maintenance Technicians to perform reactive and preventative maintenance, and repair and modify signalling equipment and infrastructure.
Through the Apprenticeship you gain a Certificate III in Electro-technology in addition to a Certificate IV in Railway Signalling. The combined qualifications will be attained over a four year period.

A New Pathway to Paramedicine
Due to the popularity of VU’s paramedicine courses, a new pathway has been created to ensure that students have the best chance of reaching their career goals. Students can now progress through the following steps to reach a bachelor degree:
Successfully complete Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport at our St Albans and Werribee campuses. Applications for this course are open now for a February 2020 start. Admission criteria are a current and valid driver’s license (min. probationary) and a literacy and numeracy test.
Apply for Diploma of Paramedical Sciences for 2020 mid-year intake. With credit obtained from the Certificate III, students will be able to complete the Diploma in 6 months.
Pathway from the Diploma into second year of Bachelor of Paramedicine at the start of 2021.
Somerset National Novella Writing Competition
The Somerset National Novella Writing Competition is open to all Australian high school students. It is a wonderful opportunity for serious student writers, encouraging them in their literary growth – and there are also some fantastic prizes on offer!
Prizes for state winners include:
- Flights and accommodation to the Gold Coast, and tickets for Somerset Storyfest 2020
- Exclusive access to meet with Australia’s elite publicists and authors
- Personalised advice and full editorial report courtesy of Penguin Random House
