Positive Coping Strategies

Respectful Relationships at Home (Lesson 3 of 5)

At North Melbourne Primary School we seek to provide our students with an education that gives each child the best start to a happy, healthy and bright future. We aim to promote and model respect and equality, and to teach our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.

In order to share our approach to our wellbeing curriculum, we have created five Respectful Relationships lessons for families to do at home together. Respectful Relationships is about embedding a culture of respect and equality across our entire community. This approach leads to positive impacts on student’s academic outcomes, their mental health, behaviour and relationships.

Lesson 3 focusses on positive coping strategies. As children grow and develop, they will encounter situations where they feel worried, nervous and sometimes even scared. Individuals deal with the demands on them by drawing on a range of coping strategies. Some strategies are more productive than others. Helping children to learn a range of positive coping skills will enable them to cope with future changes and challenges
