From Our Students

THE EXHIBITION

In the past week, all students at Murrumbeena Primary School completed and presented their final exhibition pieces.

Exhibition is an opportunity for year 6 students to exhibit the attributes of the IB Learner Profile, which we have been developing over our primary school years. We had to engage in a collaborative, transdisciplinary inquiry process that involves identifying, investigating and offering solutions to real life issues or problems. At first, no one even knew if we would be able to complete the Exhibition, with the circumstances that were given. Remote learning was a barrier for all of us, but in the end we were able to present a high quality presentation with the assistance of the wonderful year 6 teachers.

Within remote learning, we began with an introduction to Exhibition. No one knew how the end result would look or be like. After choosing a topic, we began with the base of Exhibition which included finding an essential agreement, lines of inquiry and central idea. Next came the most challenging part of all, the elements of Exhibition. For any Exhibition at Murrumbeena Primary School, students must complete a written, maths, ICT, action and optional element. We began our Exhibition elements in remote learning contacting each other using Google Meets. When the end of remote learning came, we all had a new learning environment to work in, which made working on Exhibition way easier because we were able to communicate and cooperate with our group more efficiently and enjoyably.

Coming to the end of Exhibition we began preparing our final presentations. In the past, Exhibition has been presented on boards and exhibited at school to the parents and the school community. With this year’s circumstances, we were not able to exhibit our presentations like normal. Instead, we presented Exhibtion on a Google slide to our parents and students at Murrumbeena Primary. On Tuesday and Wednesday, groups of year 6 students stayed back after school to present their Exhibition topics and presentations to parents using Webex. This was most certainly a challenging and different experience for all of us. After the presentation to parents, we went to classes at the school and to exhibit our topics to them.

Overall, Exhibition this year was a lovely, arduous and new experience for all of us with so many unexpected obstacles and challenges that we all have endeavoured through.

Before I end this newsletter, I would like to thank the following people who have assisted and made Exhibition the best it could be. A huge thank you to Miss McKellar, Mr Damiano, Mrs Monotti and Miss Saxton for helping and assisting us through Exhibition. On behalf of all the year 6 students and parents, I would like to thank you all for the tireless and amazing time and effort you have put into Exhibition this year!
