School News

From our School Council President

Howdy All,

As the most unusual of years draws to an end (thankfully), the School Council met this week for our final meeting for the year.

With the challenges that this year has presented, the School Council has continued to be active throughout the year supporting Sheryl and her team where we can, and trying to maintain a "business as usual" approach to school maintenance, upgrades, and initiatives in preparation of students returning to school. The School Council would like to acknowledge the amazing work that Sheryl, Ellen, and the entire teaching and administration team have done in providing the best possible learning environment for the kids this year. A truly outstanding team effort!

As a School Council we set ourselves various tasks to complete throughout the year which are based on feedback and ideas from the various groups that make up our school community. These tasks are allocated to the various sub-committees to review, plan, and implement based on approval from the School Council. I am very pleased that even given the challenges of the School Council has managed to achieve a few key initiatives that we set ourselves.

The year that was...

  • Upgrade of the composting area
  • Purchase of new learning devices
  • Upgrade of the canteen area and facilities including air conditioning, new industrial dishwasher, and new storage fridges
  • Installation of a new bike storage shed
  • Extension of the storage facilities to support fete resources and additional furniture
  • Replacement of the shade sails above the canteen
  • Installation of solar powered security lightning near the basketball court and Wooden playground
  • Installation of new hand dryers in the student toilets
  • Installation of air conditioning in the OSHC
  • Review, selection and award of the Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) provider for the school
  • Preparation and submission for a number of grants for installation of solar panels, and redevelopment of the oval and surrounds.
  • Development of a marketing and communication strategy and framework

As you will have read already in Sheryl's section, the most exciting news we received last week was the approval of our grant application to redevelop the oval and surrounds. Whilst the details are still being finalised, the grant of $321,125 will go a long way to realising our ideas on improving the oval. As part of the grant application we had to submit a number of concept ideas on how we would utilise the area we have available taking into account the feedback and ideas from our community survey as well as input from the students. The B&G sub-committee will be looking at this project in earnest starting in the new year and we will ensure that everyone is kept updated during the process.

Before I finish, I want to personally thank all of the school council members for their work and contribution this year. This is a team effort and I appreciate all the support.

Finally, on behalf of the School Council I wanted to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas, and we look forward to seeing everyone in 2021!

Cheers,

Bruce Baker
