Wow! We are off to a flying start this year.  It’s wonderful to be back on campus, and have all our wonderful Benilde boys with us again.

We welcome all our boys back and in particular, our Bentleigh East students into Year 11, and welcome to all our Year 10 students who have joined the tutor group system.

The boys have had an opportunity to spend time with their tutors and other boys in their tutor groups, select the ‘best’ locker and familiarise themselves with the school grounds and classrooms they have their different subjects in.

Our wonderful tutors will provide ongoing pastoral care and support to the boys in their tutor groups. Our tutors, some of whom have been in Benilde house for some time are Mr Glenn Anderson, Mrs Carolyn Sutherland, Mr Damien March, Mr Ben Wilson, Ms Marina McNeil, Ms Sally Spencer, Mr Jake Byrne, Mrs Lis Burn, Mr Kevin Rafferty and Mrs Jane Murphy.

Preparations are under way for our house athletics carnival on Thursday 11, and Benilde are getting ready to take the title again… for yet another year!  House swimming will follow the week after, and we certainly have some amazing swimmers in Benilde that will put us in a good position to hopefully win the senior house carnival.

We wish all our students all the best for a great year ahead, and look forward to acknowledging many achievements, whether they be academic, sporting, and cultural or within the community in Benilde house throughout this year.

And now a few words from our Benilde house leaders: Adam Bartosy, Kaylan Kitto and Max Cronin.

Adam: The Benilde hallways filled with atmosphere and anticipation on February 1 when the whole school arrived back to commence term one. For the first time in St Bede's history all students didn't just congregate on the Mentone campus, but also at the new

St Bede’s Bentleigh East campus. The amalgamation of St James and St Bede’s is an iconic moment in history for both schools.  In doing so, the Mentone campus has welcomed all students from St James into the Mentone campus from all year levels.   ‘Two campuses, one community’.

Kaylan: As Term 1 is kicking off, students are met with a sense of opportunity with the senior and Junior Athletics approaching, as well as our swimming carnivals. With all these important dates in our school calendar, and with the addition of MAD day commencing on the 26th of March, our students get reassurance that our school year may be going just as they have hoped for.  As St Bede’s students we pride ourselves in doing our best and competing with a resilient attitude. These attitudes will also get showcased as our talented St Bede’s ACC coaches are finalising teams to compete in a variety of term 1 sports like volleyball and cricket.

Max: Minutes after setting foot back into the Benilde halls, a quick relief set into the students both new and returning. Although many struggled initially with worries and stresses of the hard efforts to come, the staff and fellow housemates made quick work of helping those who needed it settle in. It feels hard to be bored with so many engaging activities on the horizon such as MAD day, house athletics and swimming as well as a number of house arts competitions. Even now, with all that is happening with the St James amalgamation and early start to ACC, it can be said that we are all very fortunate to be at St Bede’s College at such a historical and engaging time.
