Class of 2020 High Achievers

As you may well be aware, Monday February 8 was a full school assembly where our College Leaders were inducted and our High Achievers presented. The day was a momentous occasion as it was the first time that students gathered together from both campuses in one location.

As the incoming Deputy Principal for Learning and Teaching, I was fortunate enough to be charged with presenting our high achieving VCE students from 2020. I found it notable that the circumstances that these boys had overcome in order to achieve such extraordinary results was cause for celebration and acknowledgement. This was no ordinary achievement.

The young men who returned onsite for recognition were restricted from being in the assembly with the whole school; they were presented in the auditorium and a live feed was run to the sports stadium. Their achievements were cause for celebration in the moment, with the student body astounded by what these St Bede’s students had accomplished. These young men have every reason to be proud of their completion to secondary schooling. It is, however, timely to acknowledge their parents; they too should have a sense of pride in the love, care and support that they have provided in order for their sons to flourish. To the teachers of St Bede’s, the collective effort required for this moment must not go unheralded.

There were 19 students who achieved an ATAR above 90. Key highlights include;

  • The achievements over two years of study, with many of these students achieving a unit 3/4 score above 40 (the top 9% of the subject) whilst in Year 11.
  • The breadth of subjects undertaken, including higher level mathematics, languages, applied science and science subjects, as well as subjects within the humanities
  • The high standard in English across the high achieving students
  • Four students achieving an ATAR above 99; Liam Collins, Sam Murray, Billy Bunn and Will Devlin
  • Dux Proximus, Billy Bunn, who achieved three perfect study scores of 50 in English, Geography and Global Politics
  • An ATAR of 99.9 for 2020 Dux - Will Devlin

It was an honour to have presented these young men to the College community, and they certainly set a high bar. Congratulations one and all.
