Principal's Report

Mr Rob Bray

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

On 22 January, I wrote a ‘Welcome Back’ letter to all of our NCS families. At that stage, no students had returned to school and our staff team had just completed their January Conference. Much has occurred in the seven days since then. Our nation celebrated Australia Day on 26 January and the very next day all students in Years 1-12 returned to NCS for their first day of school for the 2021 year. For 25 students, this was, in fact, their very first day at Nowra Christian School and, from all reports, they have settled in very well to their new school setting. However, our NCS school family is not yet quite complete as we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our Kindergarten children who will begin their ‘big school’ journey with us this coming Tuesday.

I would, once again, extend a very warm welcome to all new families who are joining our school community this year. We trust that you will soon feel very much ‘at home’. I am confident that your children will quickly form strong friendship bonds, especially with students in their own year groups. I trust that, as parents and carers, you will also find our school to provide you with a warm and welcoming environment.

Usually we would hold our Twilight Family Picnic on a Friday evening during February. This has proven to be a very popular event where all NCS families are invited to bring along a blanket and enjoy friendly conversations around an informal picnic meal. It has provided an excellent forum for existing NCS families to meet and greet our newest family members. As we come together, we have the opportunity to further strengthen the sense of ‘community’ that is one of our three NCS core values.

We are currently assessing whether or not we will be able to hold the Twilight Picnic for all families under the current COVID-19 restrictions. If we are unable to run our normal Twilight Picnic, we will instead gather our new families together for a 'Welcome to NCS BBQ'.

Please save the date of Friday 5 March @ 5.30pm and we will send further information about the details of this event and who will be able to attend in the coming week.

As Mr Petts, our Secondary Chaplain, has outlined elsewhere in this edition of the Bytes, our whole-school theme for this year is ‘God’s Big Rescue’. This theme is designed to take all members of our school community on an exciting journey through God’s big story from Genesis, the first book of the Bible, all the way through to the final book of Revelation.

On Monday I will have the privilege of beginning this journey with our NCS staff team and this is where our focus verse has come from. Genesis 1:1 is the very first verse in the Bible and it states:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

How wonderful it is to be reminded that we are not here by accident but that, instead, everything that exists has come about at the hands of our loving and creative God! Genesis 1:1 presents the foundational truth on which all that we do at Nowra Christian School is based. This is the God whom we serve and the God who we share with our students through our curriculum programs that have been carefully designed from a Christian worldview perspective.
