Debating news

Iva Roncevic, Debating Coordinator

The DAV Debating competition took off last week at Kilvington with a successful first round by all Kilvington teams.

The VCE team as well as the C and D grade teams all won their debates, with Hamish Bruce, Diya Matthew and Maria Wang being voted best speakers.

Kilvington Debating Captain, Hamish Bruce, has also been accepted to the Victorian School’s Team as a speaker, and will be participating in the national competition during the year. This is an extraordinary achievement.

The next debate will be held on Wednesday 31 March, with D and C Grade beginning at 7.00pm and VCE commencing at 8.00pm.

Cut for a Cause

On 23 March, we held our annual 'Cut for a Cause' charity event. Six Year 9 students (Joanna Jiang, Rianne Darvell, Harrison Meadows, Hudson Nolan, Sofia Semechko, and Melody Xu) cut their hair to raise funds for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) so far. An incredible result.

We had seven Year 12 students taking part (Jett Ellaway, Momoko Hikima, Viet Le, Jake Prager, Ella Roper, Isaac Webb and Joyce Wu), together with PFA Chair, Kirsten Brooks, who were raising money for JDRF Australia in memory of Year 10 student Lachie Cook. So far, $3684 has been raised for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) and $11,791 for JDRF Australia. Amazing!

A massive THANK YOU to all our students for their efforts, and to David at Emphasis Hair Studio who has been cutting with us since 2011.

Well done to Ms Goldenberg for pulling the whole event together!

Harmony Day food drive

Jacqui Goldenberg, Community Service Program Director

On Tuesday March 23, Kilvington celebrated Harmony Day. The School was awash with orange. Everyone from ELC to Year 12 was a part of our Harmony Day celebrations, embracing diversity and inclusiveness.

We ran a very successful food drive for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, filling 95 bags of groceries, valued at approximately $3000.

The ELC and Junior School students created a beautiful mural of hands celebrating who they are as individuals, yet coming together to show everyone belongs. You can find the mural in the JS Reception area.

Thank you for supporting our community service program.

Opening of new play space

On 14 March, we officially (albeit informally) opened our new play space along Katandra Road. It was announced that following a consultative process with students, it would be named Discovery Grove. A perfect name for our new fun and interactive space for our younger junior students!
