Swimming Carnival

Thursday 11 February, Start 8.50 am

This year our School Swimming Carnival will be held during the day on Thursday 11 February. Our Carnival is all about participation and friendly competition. Children aged 8yrs and up may qualify for a position at the Diocesan Swimming Carnival. School spirit is a big focus and children are encouraged to do their best for their House.

For many years all students from Yr 1 to Yr 6  have been involved whether they are swimmers or non-swimmers. We have novelty events throughout the day for any non-swimmers in Primary.

Last  year we had to make important changes based on safety and supervision. The toddlers pool no longer exists. We have relied on this pool to run Infants events. The current water park set up does not lend itself to safe, consistent play for large groups of little people. Activities on the grass take staff away from the running of the Carnival.

Our Kindergarten students DO NOT attend the Carnival.

The only Year 1 and Year 2 students who are permitted to attend the Carnival are those who can swim 25 metres of any one stroke without stopping. ALL other Year 1 and Year 2 students MUST attend school where lessons will run as normal. Drop off and pick up at school will be as normal for those students.

 Please note the following information:

  • The carnival commences at 8.50am. Children are to go straight to the pool in the morning. Please drop off and pick up from the pool.Buses will drop children off at the pool and pick them up from the pool. Teachers will supervise the students arrival and departure.
  • Due to Covid restrictions and number capacity at the pool, we will not be able to have any spectators at the carnival. We know this is very disappointing for families however, we consider ourselves lucky to be able to hold the carnival.
  • The only adults allowed to attend the carnival will be staff and “essential adults” i.e. timekeepers. If you would like to time keep on the day, please indicate on the below google form.
  • Students in Years 3-6 are expected to attend, it is a normal school day.
  • Kinder do not attend, they come to school as normal.
  • Only students in Years 1-2 who have nominated for races are to attend.
  • We use a computer program to record all results. We require you to nominate your child for events prior to the day. Here is a link to the a google form for you to nominate your child.
  • NOMINATION FORM
  • NOMINATIONS ARE DUE BY Friday 5 February. Please complete a separate form for each student.
  • Children 8yrs and up who can swim 50m backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke or freestyle are encouraged to participate in those events on the day. Some may do a mixture of distances depending on their ability.
  • Six and seven year old students will only be swimming 25 metres.
  • Children who are entered in the 50m race can not enter the 25m race for that same stroke.
  • Please note:  THE CHILDREN COMPETE IN THE AGE THEY TURN THIS YEAR.
  • The optional 200m Medley event for proficient swimmers (50m of backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle) will be held on the day of the carnival. Our order of events follows the Diocesan Swimming Carnival.
