Principals Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

A huge welcome to each of you from the staff of St Xavier’s! We are thrilled to be back and the classrooms are already buzzing with learning. We have a number of new families and we hope their time at St Xavier's is fulfilling and enjoyable. 

This year the Living Well Learning Well Framework is being implemented across all twenty four schools in the Diocese. This is a Student Support Framework and the belief that underpins it says;

“We believe there must be a universal and unconditional positive regard for children and young people, and a high regard for the collective capacity of a school staff team to increase learning, wellbeing and life-opportunity outcomes for children and young people.”

 This term I will share LWLW ideas and news with you. Some of the Characteristics of a School Wide Support for Positive Behaviour Approach are as follows;

• A multi-tiered approach to academic and behaviour instruction which recognises and treats these two aspects as interrelated.
• A focus on positive statements and language about expected behaviours.
• A minimum number of ‘Rules for Living’ as a framework for social behaviour expectations:

■ I am safe 

■ I am valued, respected and cared for

■ I am a learner 

Last week our professional development focussed on staff Code of Conduct, the Living Well Learning Well Framework and Co Teaching in a flexible learning space. I reminded the staff that we are the professional, highly skilled adults and the students are complex little people with a variety of needs. It is our job to care for, respect and value each child every day!

The building project is very close to having five new classrooms ready for Kinder and Years 1 to 4 to move into by the end of term. This is such exciting news for the whole school community and we cannot wait to show you all around. 

The most important thing you can do for us this year is build a relationship with the teachers of your children,  keep the communication open and regular. Listen to your child read every day. 

Keep in mind I will be here to support you with any concerns you may have. It is best to talk to me sooner rather than later so we can work as a team to solve any problems.
