Miss Mel's Message

Principal - St Brigid's Primary School

Term 3, Week 4

Dear Parents,

We hope this newsletter finds you well. As we embark on a new chapter in our school's journey, we understand that change can sometimes be accompanied by questions. We would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to providing the best possible education for your children and understand that this occurs when family and school partnerships are strong, open and collaborative.

Perceptions about educational strengths may shift with time and changes in the school community. However, we want to assure you that our focus continues to be on delivering a high-quality and well-rounded education to all our students. Our dedicated team of teachers and staff are continuously striving to improve and adapt our curriculum to meet the evolving needs of our students.

Our school motto, "Small School with a Big Heart," speaks to the essence of our community - a place where each student is valued, respected and encouraged to grow, not only academically but also as compassionate individuals. When focusing on the constructive and uplifting aspects of our community we can overcome challenges, celebrate achievements, and continue to build an environment where every student feels safe, supported, and inspired.

We firmly believe in our school's vision and are dedicated to nurturing not only academic excellence but also emotional and social growth. We envision a caring, kind and inclusive community where each individual student and family is known, connected and understood. Where children can develop their full potential, foster a love for learning, and cultivate the skills necessary to thrive in an ever-changing world. By working together and supporting one another, we can build a positive and thriving community.

We encourage you, as parents, to engage with us openly and constructively. Your feedback and involvement are crucial to our growth and improvement. Together, we can ensure that our school continues to be a place where your children can flourish as individuals.

Thank you for your ongoing support and trust in our school. We look forward to building an even brighter future for our students, guided by the belief in our school's potential and the big heart that beats within its walls.

Updates

Work experience students

We thank Laila Schober and Tahlia Said, both previous students of St B’s, for their positivity, can-do attitudes and support in our learning areas, during their work experience time with us over the last week. You never know, we may see these amazing individuals back here teaching with us one day!

Uniform

We have been advised of some shipment delays, and we do apologise for these unexpected circumstances. We thank you for your continued patience. Hopefully not too long now.

Building

Building works are full steam ahead. We have wrapping around the building and the

roof is on! The date is looking more like early October, unless we can make up some time.

Cubby Updates

The village is under construction at Castle and Cubby and we are hoping for delivery early to mid September, and intend to finalise the play space over the holidays. There might be a call out for helpers closer to delivery date.

Eucharist Family Night

The Year 4 students and their families attended the Eucharist Family Evening and engaged in some thoughtful reflection, sharing of tradition and personal experience. We send heartfelt prayers for all of the children during their preparations for their first Eucharist.

Website Updates

We had Richard Mills onsite on Wednesday to update our website videos and photos. It was wonderful hearing the leaders of St B’s speak confidently about their roles, being a leader at St B’s, and the Student Representative Council.

Kinder Story Time

It was wonderful to see so many of our 2024 prep students come in for story time, and a sing along with Keena last week. This week Laila, our work experience student, read the kids a story, supported by Petrina. Remember, come along to Story Time every Wednesday at 2.45pm, to support your child’s successful 2024 transition to St B’s.

Campaign #HousesAtParliament https://www.vhn.org.au/home

Two weeks ago, our year 3-6 students listened to a guest speaker, Kate Weston, team leader of Housing and Financial Counseling at Sunbury Cobaw Community Health. Kate shared her experiences in her role, and the challenges faced by many people in our area. Following on from this our students made many origami houses in Japanese with Cox Sensei. The houses were collected by Kate and taken to parliament. We were part of a larger initiative to make 6,000 paper houses.

The campaign was to ask that State and Federal Governments commit to Building a steady ongoing pipeline of at least 6,000 new social houses in Victoria per year and Creating a National plan to END homelessness.

It aimed to raise awareness about the urgent need for social and public housing. There are 57,000 households on the social housing waitlist TODAY and the numbers are growing every week. they

At the last Census, 30,660 Victorians were without a home (including 6,800 children) – that’s 27 per cent of Australia’s total (112,494). Homelessness Week aims to raise awareness of the impact of homelessness, the solutions needed to end homelessness . Homelessness Week 2023 will take place from Sunday August 6 to Saturday August 12.
