Preps’ 100 Days of School Celebration

On Wednesday 26th July, the Preparatory students celebrated their 100 days of school. This was such a fun-filled day, enjoyed by everyone. The students and teachers came dressed as 100-year-olds to celebrate this milestone in the students’ education. We commenced the day with Investigations, completed a task about what we would buy with $100 and created our own crowns to show that we are 100 days smarter. We have had the best first 100 days of learning at Chatham and we are excited for many more delightful learning experiences here.

Year 1 Rippon Lea Estate Excursion

On Wednesday 19th August, the Year 1 students visited Rippon Lea Estate. Students examined the past through family history, children's life and domestic work. Everyone dressed up in 19th Century style clothing and participated in a variety of activities. We played Victorian children’s games on the lawn, explored the many magical pathways that wind over the property, did the laundry and had a tour of the mansion. Our Year 1 students, volunteers and teachers had a wonderful time on this exciting excursion.

Year 3 Billy Cart Incusion

Today, my class and I went to the hall for our Billycart incursion. Our instructor was Emily. First, she got us to sit down on the floor and gave us a few tips on making Billycarts and showed us what we would do in each group.

In the first group, The Workshop, you would get to make your own mini–Billycart with wood that had holes in it, nuts, axles and screws. It then got tested by getting pushed down a ramp, but it was too small to ride.

As we moved to the second group, we made a bigger Billycart, but it was only a model so we could not ride it - but it was bigger than the first - but it was still too small to ride! This time we made it with metal and we had the exact pieces we needed, but we did not have instructions.

In the third group, we got to ride Billycarts that we did not make. Professionals did. We got into partners as one pushed and one controlled the Billycart. The one who controlled the Billycart got two laps and had to wear a helmet. They got to go around a circle of cones twice.

Once we had all got to go in each group, we all sat down and talked about some tips, and Emily chose four people who had driven the Billycarts well. They got into partners and had a Billycart play-off. One pushed and one drove. It was Lucinda and Marsden in one team and Evangeline and Evelyn in the other. It was close but, in the end, Evangeline and Evelyn won.

I had a great day in the end.

Year 6 Excursion to CERES

We are delighted to share with you the enriching experience our Year 6 students had during the excursion to CERES (Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies) on Tuesday 25th July. Led by the knowledgeable instructors, Adrian and Nick, each class was immersed in a series of activities that delved into the delicate balance of our Earth's ecosystem and the significance of transitioning from non-renewable to cleaner, renewable energy sources. The day was further complemented by an exploration of the site and its impressive array of eco-friendly features.

During the excursion, our students wholeheartedly engaged in activities that perfectly aligned with our Term 3 Inquiry focus, 'Consumption.' The students not only actively participated, but also exhibited a genuine enthusiasm to learn about environmental sustainability and its impact on our planet. Adrian and Nick's expertise ensured that the day was not only educational, but also thought-provoking, inspiring our young minds to take meaningful steps towards becoming environmentally responsible citizens.

We extend our gratitude to our parent volunteers who generously dedicated their time and support to make this excursion a resounding success. We are proud of the way our students embraced the opportunity and returned with newfound knowledge and a strengthened commitment to preserving our planet for future generations.

Year 5 & 6 Chatham Girls' Footy Round Robin 2023

On Thursday 27th July, some Year 5 and 6 girls participated in the Boroondara Division Girls’ Footy Round Robin at Bulleen Sports Ground. The girls played five rounds of 20-minute games. The first game was against St Bedes Primary School. The girls played an intense game of footy. The score in the end was 64-0 St Bedes way. The second game was against Bialik, the score was 48-0, Bialik won. Our third game was against Canterbury Primary School, they had many skilled footy players, again, unfortunately we lost.

We then had a half-hour break for lunch. There was a longest kick competition and a 100m race. Each school chose one person to participate in each event. For the longest kick we chose Lulu Credlin who came second with an awesome kick. For the 100m we chose Ella Henry who did an outstanding job coming around fourth place.

Next, we played St Bedes again. This was definitely our best game. The first time we played them we lost 64-0. We were much better the second time. The score was 23-1. Even though we lost, we were super proud because we kept the pressure on the whole game and showed that we had really improved.

Our last game played was against Camberwell. We played really well with super intensity all game. Ella Holland scored our first goal…. actually, first goal in 2 years! But annoyingly, we still lost 29 - 7!

After having such an amazing and productive day, we hopped back on the bus and went back to school. Thanks to everyone who organised the event!
