Principal's Report

Dear St Augustine's families and friends,

Week 4 done and dusted! The term is certainly flying! I hope this fortnight’s Newsletter finds you all well! We have been extremely busy here at school and as always, there are many things going on (incursions and excursions) which all are planned to compliment the children’s learning. A great deal of work goes in to the planning of what your child does here every day at school, and the teachers are never resting! It’s this planning that really helps refine the learning your children receive and helps them take the next step in their learning journey.

Our 2023 NAPLAN results went home to the families of children in Year 3 & Year 5 and we are really pleased with our results. The government have changed the way NAPLAN results are presented so we can’t compare them to our previous achievements, but we appear to be on a continuous improvement curve, which is great news for our school and our Community!

Today was Principals Day! This is an initiative which is celebrated in schools across the country, about recognising the tireless efforts of Principals and Deputy Principals in achieving excellence in education.  Strong leadership and integrity of Principals and Deputies, helps make Victorian schools vibrant and stimulating places for learners.  I would like to thanks Mrs Emma Ramsamy and Mrs Nicole Quanchi for all their hard work and dedication.  We are very lucky to have them both on the St A’s team!  The staff thanked us all with a special surprise which we were all very grateful for!

100 Days of School!

I was so lucky this week to be involved in 100 days of school with our Prep students.  It was fabulous to see our Preps dressed as 100 year old men and women!  Lots of effort went into their costumes, and they all played the part very well.  The day was a great success and the students had fun x 100!  Thank you to all the staff and parents that made this day so amazing and a memorable one for the Preps.   Prep parents and families should be extremely proud of their children for reaching their 100 days of learning!!!

Respect and Carpark Safety

We all want the students at St A’s to be picked up from school safely.  Of late there has been some anti-social behaviour occurring in the car park.  Please make sure as the adults that you are making choices that are respectful of others and conducting yourselves in an appropriate manner.  Students have witnessed some of this behaviour and this is not on.  Be mindful that parents are to park in the designated parking sports, or wait in the Kiss and Drop line.  Cars are not to be parked on the grassy area behind the crossing or on the oval at this time.  Student safety is paramount and that responsibility falls on the parents who are using our school facilities.  Beeping other cars, overtaking cars, blocking cars in and erratic driving in the car park should not be occurring.

Student Behaviour

We expect that all of our students act in a respectful and positive manner towards others.  Of late we have noticed that some of our students are not making the choices that we would expect from them.  Can parents please make a big effort to talk to their children about this?  We want all our students to feel safe at school and acts of bullying, intimidation and physical altercations will not be tolerated. Respect, empathy and kindness needs to be at the forefront of how our students act and behave.

St Augustine said:

Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.

I wonder how this thought about faith resonates with you all?

Have a fabulous weekend.

Take care, God Bless, Show Grace and Be the Joy for others.
