Year 10 is the year of endless opportunities
Welcome to what will be a very busy year!
We have certainly hit the ground running at Year 10.
Term 1 will focus on supporting students to explore and prepare themselves for work experience (more details below).
Term 2 is when students will spend two weeks in their work placements. Work experience will run from Monday 15th to Friday 26th May. Term 2 will also be when students start exploring and choosing their preferred pathway for 2024 (Course Counselling).
Term 3 will see our ‘2023 Trip to Tassie’ camp which is a highlight for many and great way to make memories to keep of the year. Excursion forms and further information will come out shortly.
While in Term 4 students who nominated to enrol in a VET course for 2024 will complete an orientation day at the TAFE campus for their chosen VET course. Students will also celebrate their last moments at the junior campus with the Year 10 formal.
In between all of this, there will be opportunities to participate in the Trade Pathway Program (to be confirmed) as well as spend time exploring university courses through the Fed Uni Experience Days.
Your child will be supported by a very experienced team of teachers. You are encouraged to contact any member of the team with regards to the progress of your child as well as any questions you have with regards to Work Experience, Course Counselling or any of the programs offered throughout the year.
Wednesday our Peer Support Leaders were involved in a mentoring and training session with players from the Collingwood Football Club. Students gained valuable insight to leadership strategies, physical training advice, activities to build teamwork and mentoring strategies from the players. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions and spend some time outside participating in several activities with the players. The players and the club were very generous in providing this opportunity to our students, and we thank them for their support. Thanks to Rachel Dodd and Andy Leeson also for organising this opportunity. Some photos of the day are below.
Our School Captains for 2023 are Bryleigh Matthews and Sidney Townsend, and our Vice Captains are Zoe Woodward and Bobby Aarons. Congratulations to you all.
With such a busy program and students representing the school in local workplaces across our region, Kurnai College has high expectations of all student’s behaviour in ways which reflect our values.
The Year 10 team will continually communicate to the students on the expectations of attendance, behaviours and wearing correct uniform. Staff will acknowledge these behaviours with Positive Acknowledgement messages home.
We appreciate your support on these matters and this week draw your attention to notifying the school if your child is absent and signing out your child from the front office if you collect your child early from school.
